Job description
Lead Senior Radiological Controls Technician – Reporting to the RadConSupv

Initially, you will assist on the development of the entire MDAB project documentation and deliverable submittal package supporting startup of Portage MDAB RadConOps under all applicable LANS RPP Plans and LANS Procedures, DOE Orders and the recently issued Guide. You will have the lead, with help from the Rad Engineer and RadConSup, to develop the MDAB Project RadCon procedures for such new operations as dig face monitoring, DIF waste sorting, disposition of unknowns, etc.

You will be asked to develop the plans and procedures for the procurement and commissioning of the project instrumentation package as well as the on-site screening lab. Throughout the pre-and mobilization process you will acquire and make ready for field deployment all instruments, while working with the LANS RIC facility for all calibration and support services. Once the project is operational, your duties will become the Lab Manager, responsible for all sampling, monitoring and lab operations, and supervision of Sr. RC Techs assigned to lab operations.

Duties:
Implement the day-to-day programmatic aspects of the Radiological Protection Plan. Perform air sampling, radiation surveys, radioactive contamination control and monitoring, access control, posting and labeling, completion and management of records, responding to accidents and emergencies, vehicle and equipment control, instrumentation source check, and personnel and equipment decontamination. Generate radiological data records and reports. Support Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety tasks as cross-trained and required by position assignment. Perform collateral safety and health duties commensurate with qualifications, aptitude, and ability (including job coverage, monitoring, and surveillance). Participate in the formulation of action plans in response to identified deficiencies. Perform detailed technical operations in compliance with written work plans, protocols, and procedures. Perform such other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Dimensions:

1.        Supervision Received:
•        Reports to Radcon Supervisor, Lead RCT, or designee for technical and         day-to-day operational guidance.

2.        Supervision Exercised:
•        Oversees and guides the activities of radiological workers and Junior Technicians.

3.        Interface Required:
•        Provides guidance and monitors the performance of technical support in the assigned area.

Minimum Skills:

Demonstrated ability for the following:
•        Follow procedures, work packages, and/or protocols.
•        Oversee and guide radiological support and radiological workers.
•        Source check instrumentation
•        Train junior technicians in the use of radiological instrumentation
•        Appropriately document survey and data collection results
•        Use different levels of PPE (including respiratory protection).
•        Effectively communicate (written/verbal) with field, project management, and client representatives is essential.
•        Manipulate computer spreadsheets and/or databases for purpose of data         reduction, presentation, and review.
•        Review and qualify HP data results and calculations (surveys, air         monitoring, etc.)
•        Explain data results to non-HP/IH personnel
•        Use word processing software

Qualifications:
•        High School Diploma or equivalent
•        Valid Drivers License
•        10 + years experience in applied health physics or applicable training.

        Experience requirements may be satisfied by an A.S. or B.S. degree in a related field. Note: Education may only substitute for up to one year of experience.
•        Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing         personnel protective equipment including respiratory protection.
•        Medically qualified to wear a respirator
•        Able to lift 30 lbs, and able to climb ladders.
•        DOE “L” or “Q” Clearance may be required depending on project         assignment. If no clearance, ability to obtain one, as required.

Compensation
Pay: $30-35/hr. + apartment allowance of $450/mo and $49 PD, 7 days/wk.
Incentive: yes, based on agreed performance measures, up to 10%
Start date: Monday 2 June 2008
End Date: Fall 2010

Overtime: ST Rate X 1.5
