Job description
Job Summary:
Develops and prepares programs for plant specific or generic instruction to establish and maintain worker competence, qualification and certification per company and regualtory requirements. Conducts classes, prepares tests, and submits evaluations on the performance and capabilities of the trainees to supervision. Gathers information on the principles and operation of new power plant equipment and controls and develops or changes programs to incorporate material into the program. Operates and oversees operation of equipment by trainees in the classroom and in the plant to demonstrate procedures and explain job functions. Monitors qualification of personnel and coordinates scheduling and qualification testing as required. Qualified to operate the plant specific simulator in support of licensed operator training. Works in the power plant on a periodic basis to maintain technical expertise. Participates in industry conferences, interfaces with industry and regulatory personnel and performs benchmarking with other utilities to identify opportunities for improvement.

Description of ideal candidate
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1.)Analyzes, designs, develops, implements and evaluates initial and continuing training and qualification programs.
2.)In the performance improvement role, the instructor assists the line in developing both training and non-training solutions to current issues and trends. Ensures training is being used strategically to improve performance.
3.)As the steward for the assigned discipline, the instructor is accountable for program health in the role of “SAT Champion”.
4.) Provides expertise in the implementation of the Training Systems Development process by directing and coaching instructors and line personnel as assigned by the General Supervisor.
5.)The instructor provides functional supervision of students in the training environment
6.)Models line manager standards and expectations. Reinforces the use of error prevention tools, safe worker practices, ALARA techniques, and the principles for a strong nuclear safety culture in all training.
7.)Evaluates trainee performance in the classroom, on-the-job and in the laboratory settings.
8.)Implements the corrective action and self-assessment programs with a passion for continuous improvement.
9.)Works closely with line customers to ensure alignment on performance issues, standards and expectations, initiatives and priorities. Owns line performance.
10.)Coordinates training committees and ensures that meeting minutes are developed, action items are tracked, decisions are documented, training requests are dispositioned, involvement is monitored, agenda items are covered, and SAT processes followed..
11.)Support job functions in the outage and emergency response organizations as assigned.
12.)Maintains a long range initial and continuing training plan based on a systematic analysis of staffing and performance needs.
13.)Develops training material including classroom lesson plans, job performance measures, laboratory guides, qualification cards, and dynamic learning activities using a SAT process.
14.)Ensures the training programs are maintained current by incorporating National Academy for Nuclear Training, INPO, industry, and station operating experience, NRC Circulars, Bulletins, and Information Notices, plant modifications, license amendments, procedure changes, and training effectiveness reports.
15.)Evaluates vendor supplied training materials. Evaluates supplemental worker training records and vendor sponsored training programs. Assess equivalency of training courses conducted at union halls, technical or trade schools, military schools, and non-nuclear industrial training institutions.
16.) Maintains knowledge of plant operations, equipment, components, and disciplinary skills and techniques commensurate with the responsibility to conduct effective, high quality training.
17.)Operates control room simulator to conduct plant transient response and malfunction training in compliance with Federal regulations.



Basic Qualifications Job Specifications:

Knowledge: Must hold or have held a Sr. Reactor Operator license, or completed an operations training certification at a US Nuclear facility.

Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to lead by influence.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent plus 10 years combined experience as a Control Room Operator or a Sr. Control Room Operator in nuclear power plant operations or the equivalent job at a military propulsion reactor, or the equivalent combination of formal education (education should include courses in trigonometry, physics or chemistry)/training and experience. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering may be substituted for four years of experience.

Other:
1.Meet the requirements of Company and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) psychological, drug, alcohol, and medical testing policies and/or regulations.
2.Must satisfy General Employee Training (GET) to gain site access.
3.Satisfactorily complete required background checks.
4.Satisfactorily complete radiation safety training (may include respirator qualifications), if required for job performance.
5.Recent convictions for crimes reasonably related to the activities of this job may disqualify an applicant.
6.All of the incumbents in this position will be required to fill an ORT position.
