Job description
Basic Qualifications / General Job Requirements:
The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years experience managing or supervising one or more organizations or units. A minimum of five years of project management experience is also expected. The successful candidate will also possess a minimum of seven years of nuclear power experience.
The successful candidate will have already demonstrated the following skills, abilities, knowledge and experience, as listed:
- Develops strategic plans, including internal & external resources.
- Directs the activities of multiple, independent, groups (i.e., cross functional teams) toward a common goal.
- Applies experience with budget management and controls, including financial and trend analysis, cost-benefit analysis, in order to develop business cases.
- Knows industry best practices and processes for the management and control of outage risk and defense in depth.
- Understands project management concepts and skills, including planning, scheduling, quality, budget, procurement, controls, and risk management.
- Achieves results through others by prioritizing activities, delegating and monitoring the progress of assignments, and holding employees accountable for results.
- Manages talent by selecting and developing employees to fill talent gaps.
- Acts as a conceptual leader at the level of the department.
- Makes effective, strategic decisions on immediate issues with impact on the Company, and with little opportunity for reversal.
- Motivates self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals, and takes initiative and accountability for results.
- Interfaces effectively with the highest levels of senior management, direct reports, clients, peers, and regulatory agencies to provide information, to assist in strategic decision making, to develop solutions, and to ensure stakeholder buy-in.
- Consults with clients, including independently identifying client needs, developing action plans, identifying deliverables, and presenting results.
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills to address conflicts and negotiate the resolution of complex issues.
- Knows nuclear power plant operating principles, department policies, objectives, strategies, goals, and applicable rules and laws.

ANSI N18.1-1971 Requirements:
Shall be competent in technical matters related to plant safety and other engineering and scientific support aspects.

Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in business, engineering, or physical sciences, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.

Preferred Skills:
A Senior Reactor Operator's (SRO) License or SRO Certification is preferred. A Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project, as well as Lotus Notes, is desired.

Typical Responsibilities:
This position serves as the Manager of Outages at SONGS, for both planned and forced outages.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Establishes clear and concise expectations and processes for the preparation, review, and acceptance of outage schedules and plans and the execution and conduct of outage activities.
- Manages diverse and direct/indirect groups, including all site organizations, in the monitoring and implementation of those expectations with clear and strong accountability for performance and results.
- Helps the organization define the right scope and the budget for completing that scope in the most efficient, safe, and effective manner.
- Conducts risk mitigation and management and include those concepts in every aspect of outage preparation and execution.
- Develops overarching strategies that will improve site-wide performance during outages.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
