Job description
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Sr Health Physicist (Shipping Health Physicist) is responsible for shipping radioactive material in accordance with state and federal regulations. Key responsibilities include:

- Performing corrective action evaluations (CAR's), calculations, and problem solving for radiological shipping issues.
- Ensuring the radiation protection program meets regulatory requirements, INPO guidance, accepted industry practices, and other related guidance.
- Supporting radiation protection shipping procedures and process improvements.
- Performing health physics calculations to support radiation protection and shipping.
- Supporting the Callaway Emergency Response Organization.
- Supporting the Callaway Training program by instructing and assisting with training, as needed.
- Supporting the ALARA Program to reduce collective radiation exposure.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Health Physics or other science related field required. Candidates with a High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant nuclear health physics and shipping experience will also be considered.

Experience
Five or more years experience in Radioactive Material Shipping with at least three years health physics experience at a commercial nuclear power plant required. Experience with RADMAN shipping program also preferred.

Other
NRRPT certification or ABHP Part 1 required. Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must be dependable and possess good human relations characteristics. Ability to work in a team environment required. Security screening is required for Callaway Plant.
