Position Summary:
This position performs assessments and analyzes facts from observations of various work activities, interviews, and document reviews to ensure site and industry standards are met and high levels of performance are achieved and sustained.
Essential Responsibilities: Percent of Time
a) Performs assessments and analyzes facts from observations of various work activities, interviews, and document reviews to discern performance improvement opportunities. This includes identifying the technical and behavioral shortfalls that contribute to an issue. At the principal level, the assessor seeks out organizational and leadership issues that may contribute to performance shortfalls. Follow-up is conducted to ensure actions taken to address identified issues are effective. 30%
b) Identifies industry best practices and assesses the station to identify gaps to excellence. Uses industry databases and contacts to identify industry leading practices and performance. Follow-up is conducted to ensure actions taken to address identified gaps are effective. 30%
c) Establishes an effective, professional and credible relationship with site counterparts such that the counterpart truly believes the assessor is interested in helping the station strive for excellence. Works closely with the counterpart to ensure effective and timely actions are taken to resolve identified issues and improve performance. 20%
d) Effectively communicates both orally and written to fleet and station management to ensure understanding and alignment on performance shortfalls and gaps to excellence. Compelling examples are used to support assertions. Written products are logically organized, use concise language and are clear to intended readers. 15%
e) Develops technical guidance and conduct training related to areas of expertise and provides lead for document development and technical reviews of internal and external documents and reports. Seeks opportunities to strengthen technical and assessment skills. At the principal level, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of other assessors and for representing Quality Assurance. 5%

Description of ideal candidate
Minimum Requirements:
Assessor level 0 to 4 years experience, Senior level 4 to 11 years experience and Principle 12+ years experience in any of the following disciplines: operations, engineering, chemistry, radiological protection, training, or maintenance. Previous management/supervisory experience in these areas is preferred. Previous assessment/auditing experience is a plus. PWR/BWR plant operations experience is desired (for example, previous SRO or RO License or SRO certification). Navy nuclear experience is a plus. Candidates must possess a degree in engineering, physical science, mathematics, or a high school diploma with equivalent learning and experience. Bachelor’s in engineering preferred.

Other Qualifications:

Assessor – at the entry level, the incumbent works under the supervision and direction of Principal/Assessors/Supervisory personnel.

Senior Assessor – Independently performs a variety of assignments with little supervision. Capable of providing guidance or assistance to a project team or lower level assessors.

Principal – Assumes position of leadership and makes decisions independently on problems and methods to be applied. The incumbent maintains the highest technical and professional standards, and sets an example of personal conduct, technical knowledge and evaluation skills.
