Job description
Basic Qualifications / General Job Requirements:
The successful candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in design, maintenance, or systems engineering or as a maintenance supervisor at an electric generating station or a nuclear power plant. The successful candidate will have already demonstrated the skills, abilities, knowledge and/or experience as outlined below:
- Performs extensive technical analysis pertaining to the design, selection and specification of power plant equipment and systems.
- Makes recommendations for substitute materials that have been found obsolete in the plant.
- Possesses experience with, and knowledge of, electrical systems as applied to power plant processes.
- Applies computer skills including the ability to retrieve, organize, and analyze data.
- Serves as an internal subject matter expert on matters related to design or maintenance of a power plant.
- Presents information orally and in writing to promote change.
- Works under minimal direction and independently determine and develop solutions to complex technical problems.
- Gathers and analyzes information, integrate people processes, systems, and technologies, and makes decisions regarding project scope, impact, and implementation.
- Interfaces effectively with clients, peers, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies and all levels of management, to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
- Takes initiative and accountability for results while working independently.

ANSI N18.1-1971 requirement: Shall be competent in technical matters related to plant safety and other engineering and scientific support aspects.

Education:
A Bachelor Degree's or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.

Preferred Skills:
A Bachelor's degree in Science (B.S.) in a technical field or Engineering is preferred. A California Professional Engineer's (P.E.) License is desired. A San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) Senior Reactor Operator's (SRO) Certificate or SRO License is preferred.

Typical Responsibilities:
This successful candidate prepares configuration and design change packages for electrical, instrumentation and controls systems and components. Typical responsibilities include:
- Identifies and evaluates replacement components for obsolete plant equipment.
- Develops Substitution Equivalency Evaluations (SEE) to demonstrate that replacement components meet the form, fit and function criteria.
- Generates Commercial Grade Dedication and acceptance plans and documentation necessary for accepting commercial grade materials for safety-related applications.
- Establishes the technical requirements for the procurement of replacement components necessary for plant maintenance and/or modification.
- Provides technical support for the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) supply chain (material support, procurement, quality assurance, and design engineering) by determining the critical requirements of services and materials.
- Performs independent reviews of peer work products as directed by the Supervising Engineer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
