Job description
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for leadership and direction of the Chemistry Group. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the development, coordination, and implementation of chemical treatment programs and environmental programs at a nuclear generating power plant. This person is also responsible for reinforcing safe work practices, control of department budget, interfacing with other plant work groups and other duties as assigned. May fill in for RP/Chemistry Manager.

Essential Responsibilities: Percent of Time
a) Maintain primary, secondary and auxiliary laboratory operations at the highest levels of performance and quality control. 30%

b) Provide oversight of the permitted environmental programs including; NPDES, Air Quality, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, Hazardous Waste, Above Ground Storage Tanks, Underground Storage Tanks, and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure programs. 20%

c) Supervise, direct, monitor and coach chemistry staff direct reports. 20%

d) Provide oversight and supervision to Chemistry Specialists. 10%

e) Interface and coordinate with plant operations, maintenance, engineering and planning groups to efficiently maintain both reactor and steam plant water chemistry within specifications. 10%

f) Support industry accreditation of the Chemistry Technician program and provide focused leadership in achieving group, site and company goals and objectives.

Description of ideal candidate
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, radiation protection or related discipline, or the equivalent in education and experience.

5 years experience in chemistry with at least one year in radiochemistry preferred. Candidates must satisfy all Company and Nuclear Regulatory Commission security requirements.

Must be available to work overtime on regular basis and support the Emergency Response Organization. Extensive overtime required during maintenance and refueling outages and backshift support may be assigned. Some travel (<10%) may be involved to support Xcel Energy objectives.
