Job description
Description:
Perform steady state and transient mechanical analysis for CPSES plant support requests and design modifications. This includes calculations and design basis maintenance in the following areas:

•        Thermal/hydraulic analysis
•        Containment analysis
•        Tornado venting analysis
•        Loss of ventilation analysis
•        Station blackout coping
•        Combustible gas control
•        Environmental analysis
•        Flooding analysis

Projects vary from immediate-turnaround operability evaluations to longer-term, complex issue resolution. Extensive use of computer applications is required, including use of codes such as COMPARE, COMTEMPT, HEATING &, ANSYS, RELAP, SINDA, and KYPIPE and the development of other codes, when required, to evaluate heat transfer and fluid flow transients. The incumbent functions as a primary resource to CPNPP for complex mechanical analysis, and is expected to promote development of these skills in less experienced engineers through training and mentoring.

Responsibilities also include preparation and review of design changes, Licensing Document Change Requests, 10CFR50.59 reviews, quick-turnaround technical evaluations to support plant operability calls, corrective action evaluations, and software quality verification packages.

Qualifications:
•        Bachelor degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences.
•        Strong computer skills using Windows, DOS, and UNIX operating systems.
•        Strong working knowledge of industry thermal and hydraulic codes such as those listed above.
•        Ability to develop custom-designed computer codes to evaluate nuclear power plant thermal/hydraulic phenomena.
•        Effective problem solving skills; ability to apply engineering theory to solve real-world analytical problems.
•        Ability to analyze information using logic and complex thinking.
•        Strong understanding of nuclear plant system operation and interaction.
•        Excellent communication and teaming skills.
•        Ability to meet aggressive schedule deadlines, under pressure, while simultaneously meeting CPNPP’s high quality standards.
•        Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
•        Equally high comfort levels behind a desk and in the power block.
•        Highly developed analytical skills which permit a rapid assessment of the issue followed by a quick definition of potential success paths.

Preferred:
•        Knowledge of CPNPP processes, programs, and procedures.
•        Familiarity with CPNPP design and licensing basis, including historical development.
•        Familiarity with CPNPP mechanical calculations.
