The South Texas Project (STP) generating station occupies a 12,200-acre site on the Colorado River. The site is located about 90 miles southwest of Houston. The STP was Texas' first nuclear plant. In 1996, both South Texas units were two of the top twenty electricity generating nuclear units worldwide.
