The Big Rock Point nuclear plant near Charlevoix, Mich., shown in this undated photo, is the nation's oldest and longest running commercial nuclear plant. The plant was scheduled to shut down May 31, 2000. However, plant owner Consumers Energy has decided to shut the plant down Aug. 30, 1997, for economic reasons.
