The World's First Plutonium Factory


  This is the B-Reactor at Hanford. Inside this reactor uranium metal was bombarded with neutrons to create plutonium for the Trinity and Nagasaki bombs. The B-Reactor continued to supply America's nuclear arsenal with plutonium until 1968. In 1976 it was designated a National historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark. 200 Area, Hanford Reservation, Richland, Washington. November 16, 1984.
