Zion Nuclear Power Plant

  ComEd's Zion nuclear power plant in Zion, Ill., is shown in this handout photo, date unknown. On Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, ComEd, the nations's largest nuclear utility, announced it is permanently shutting down the troubled plant because the twin reactors are too old to compete in the era of deregulation.
