Decommissioning of Connecticut Yankee

THE DECOMMISSIONING OF THE CONNECTICUT YANKEE nuclear power plant in Haddam Neck is now more than 90 percent complete. The reactor containment building and its highly recognizable concrete dome shell is one of the last remaining buildings to be dismantled in the two-year decommissioning project. The dome structure stood 170 feet high, but 30 feet were all that remained on Friday. The dome was weakened from the bottom up using a state-of-the-art reduction method.
