Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory

High level nuclear materials such as spent fuel assemblies from navy vessels are stored in containers at the bottom of this deep pool prior to processing in this Oct. 1995 file photo at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory located in the desert west of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Later this July, a freighter en route from South Korea will slip through San Francisco's Golden Gate and travel to Idaho on a train carrying three casks containing highly enriched uranium.
