Radioactive Material

All procurement, handling, transfer, and use of radioactive materials must be authorized by an EH&S liaison. If any of these materials need to be moved, call the Radiation Protection Group's Transportation Office.

All of this material must be kept within Controlled Areas (posted with blue and white notice signs for example). Radioactive material itself displays a yellow and black or yellow and magenta label with a trefoil symbol. All employees should be familiar with these signs as most buildings at National Labs have had radioactive material in them at some time. If you notice an item with the trefoil symbol located outside of a Controlled Area, notify the Radiation Protection Group.
