Finally sold my 84 MB 190 diesel with almost 300k ; to another roadtech's son. Hope he'll double the miles. I bought a new Hyundai Elantra in July . Already has 30000 miles on it . I 'll be pleased if it can come close to matching the Benz. By the way, Hyundai over estmated the fuel mileage at 40 mpg. It only gets 38 mpg. They now send me  about $ 40 every 3 mos in credit for as long as I own the car.

You might walk first, if that's how you count pennies.

I'm a roadie and I put 30,000 miles a year on a car. This car cost 14,750 on CarsDirect, gets over 35 mpg and has an extremely low maintenance cost. I change the Mobil 1 oil every 7500 miles. I'll drive it 7 years, put 200k miles on it and sell it to a college kid when I'm done.

Since I work for my own company, I get my 48.5 cents per mile.

Does your vehicle pay this well
-----------------------------------------------------------
Let's see you judge: Wife's 98 mustang 310 grand and other then normal oil change etc. put both ball joints and thats all haven't changed plugs but twice
my 88 trooper paid 1500 for in 2000 had from MD to FL,Ar to NC several times has 250 grand and most done to it was fuel pump
My 06 Dodge Ram 1500 4 door had 75 grand when bought now has 120 and already have replaced ball joints tie- rod ends water pump and now the tranny going bad (time to dump) newer don't mean better
I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand

I have a 06 Dodge 4dr Hemi, with 73000 on it and It will be gone before it hits 100k. ;)
I also have a 08 Dodge 2dr with a 4.7 Standard trans with 70000 on it. It has a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty, I think I will keep this one!  :)

Dang, my 2010 just hit 72K. This is the longest I've kept a Hemi Ram since I started buying them in 2004. I've had the 04, 07, and the 10.

But, a little fender bender (cosmetic, repaired just fine) killed any resale value so I'll just keep this one until it dies.

I just rolled 189,000 on my '95 Ram this winter.   The daily driver '05  Neon will hit 160,000 next week.   We just bought an '08  Town & Country a couple months ago for those “I don't feel like riding in a cracker box" type of trips.   It's the low mileage one now, only has about 118,000 on it.

Thinking of buying my wife a new Ford Escape to replace her 98 Explorer Sport. Can anyone give me feedback on the Escape? Will it pull a small motorcycle trailer? Realitistic mpg , longevity ?

comfortable for drivers in the 5'10" and below size range, 6' and above start to feel the "compact" part of the product description...

like all Fords the estimated mpg are about 10% below real world results after factoring in oxygenated gas, mandated additives and the up to 10% ethanol found in a lot of places,...

ride quality is good, build quality is good,....

if the transmission makes it past the first thirty thousand without problems it will shift forever without problems, don't ask me why it's just an observation of the half dozen or so Escapes owned by friends and family,...

with the V6 and front wheel drive plus the factory towing option our Escape pulls up to 2000 pounds like it's not even there, over 2,000 and up to the rated load of about 3,000 you begin to realize you do have something back there, the wedge trailers help about 20% with the fuel mileage, flat fronts are like towing a brick, especially as you pile the weight on,....

don't forget to turn off the traction control when trying to get started or moving slow through deep snow, it works against you in that narrow range of driving conditions,...

watch your tire pressure, if the attention light is on the traction control will not turn off and you will not get up my driveway in January, just ask my son in law, heheheheh,...

room for four adults and no more, if you want to put three across the back seat they need to be kids in that narrow age range where they are out of the boosters and car seats but not adult sized teenagers yet,...

the upholstery has been made out of some sorta ecofriendly soy based fabric since about 2010, don't spill anything on it, not even water, everything stains it, tan, black, gray, etc., the color does not matter, it'll hold stains and watermarks like a wound, albeit they do seem to fade after six months or so, I cannot explain that phenomenon,...

I like mine a lot, the bang for the buck ratio is very good, Ford did revamp the platform this past year and how much has carried over to the new facelift is anybodies guess,...

The Escape "wood" be a good choice. I used mine to tow airplane parts, ATVS and lots of other things. Stick to the 6 cylinder model the 2005- 2010 models are pretty reasonable and even more so if 4wd is not that important to you.
Mileage is in the 20 - 25 mpg range for the 4wd models.

I often wondered if I was seeing an optical illusion of my previous 89 Taurus wagon with the 3.8L getting about 35 mpg in cruise, about 20% higher than sticker estimate. If only the head gasket was as good...  ::)

I too am considering a gently used Escape, or possibly a gently used Jeep Patriot. Anyone have any opinion on the 2010 Patriot?

westerly tail wind when traveling eastbound,...

my '04 ranger had about a 10 to 20 percent mpg spread between the weekly westbound into work and the eastbound home for the weekend,...

influenced by time of year, gas additives, gas quality, headwind vs tailwind and 70 mph vs 80 mph,...

it was a 520 mile trip each way, 1040 miles round trip so a lot of the other p.d.f.'s were normalized by the length of the trip,...

I was amused by the sheer magnitude the simplest things can affect,...

The 1990 through 2000's V-6 Fords are known for head gasket problems after the miles pile up, draining and recharging the engine coolant more often than specified seems to help a lot, there are 3.0's with over 300K miles running the factory head gaskets,...

anecdotally anyways,....

What did you find out about the Escape? I've kicked around the idea of picking up a gently used model somewhere in the 2006-11 range, 4x4. Thanks!
