Moab
« on: May 02, 2007, 09:45 »
The word is that the award has been pushed back to the middle of May.

Who's got some inside scoop on this one?

I'm getting some noise that Energy Solutions may be on the top of the DOE's list for this one.

Anybody got info?

That noise you heard was correct.  EnergySolutions was awarded the Moab contract through 2011.

So, we know that Energy Solutions has the 4-year contract for 98 million to move the dirt.
We know that Parallax was purchased by Energy Solutions for federal Rad Con services.
We know that S and K Aerospace took over the Stoller contract at Moab for 22 million.
We know that the politicians and the state of Utah are pressuring the DOE to get this thing cleaned up before it gets in the Colorado River.

We don't know anything about when the work is starting or when some jobs are gonna open up.
If anyone knows any info, please give it up.

You can call Parallax at 865-481-8285 but they have to wait for Energy Solutions to request a Rad Con force in Moab.

You can call Energy Solutions 865-376-3147 and talk to their HR Dept.

Bartlett has people there, but that would only be short-term until ES inserts their staff.

Stoller was awarded the new contract for legacy in Moab. I am not sure if they employ any Rad Con folks in Utah. They do at NTS with Navarro. Here is the contact info for Stoller: Phone: 435-259-5131, Contact: Irwin Stewart

S and K Aerospace has a piece of Moab. Rad Con Opportunities? I don't believe so.

All that and $3.00 might get you a gallon of gas, the way things look right now.

  Called and Irwin Stewart is going to retire. Guess the Stoller people will be gone anyway.

Bartlett people will probably roll over. (if the price is right)

Stoller got the LM contract for Fernald.

Any other info from anyone?

The only other thing I might add to that:

The Stoller Legacy Management Contract includes all the shutdown DOE sites.
Fernald, Moab, Mound, etc.

Easy there Kimo Sabi! ARC was a decent company back in the day. Them boys down thar in Georgia used to keep a lotta rental techs working at those nuke jobs. They just lost track of what their core business was... supplying technicians to the nuclear industry, not hydrolasing  the undersides of ocean going vessels with multi million dollar machines. But I digress.

Anybody know what this Stoller Legacy Contract is all about?

For example: Stoller’s Moab team has responsibility for several on-site activities. They perform maintenance of erosion protection measures, storm water prevention plan activities, and health and safety oversight of the field work, which includes operating groundwater monitoring and treatment systems, tailings pile dewatering, and soil remediation of both on-site and nearby vicinity properties.

This is from the DOE Site: Mission
The mission of the Office of Legacy Management (LM) is to manage the Department’s post-closure responsibilities and ensure the future protection of human health and the environment. LM has control and custody for legacy land, structures, and facilities and is responsible for maintaining them at levels suitable for their long-term use.

Functions
Protects human health and the environment through effective and efficient long-term surveillance and maintenance;

Preserves and protects legacy records and information;

Supports an effective and efficient work force structured to accomplish departmental missions;

Implements departmental policy concerning continuity of worker pension and medical benefits;

Manages legacy land and assets, emphasizing safety, reuse, and disposition;

Mitigates community impacts resulting from the cleanup of legacy waste and changing departmental missions;

Actively acts as liaison and coordinates all policy issues with appropriate departmental organizations.

They sure do want to kill that pile, BUT they won't be moving anything for another year.
There is alot of infrastructure that has to be set in place first.
Maybe this time next year there will be about 100 people here with a dozen techs.
Things take time to move.
Plus, there will be no subs, they only want people that will work for Energy Solutions.
So, check in next year to see what is going on.

I'm guessing no diem since the job is supposed to last 7-10 yrs (what's the latest guess?). No relocation wouldn't surprise me. A lot of places are doing that now. I guess the only way to know for sure is to apply and see if they call you.

Gave the site a drive-by...big stack of dirt...looks like job security.

But, Moab (the town) is looking pretty touristy these days...don't like it as well as I used to...

It's too bad they haven't got that going yet.  Digging up Colorado in the springtime.... that has got to be a challenge!  Are they Super Sacking that stuff or straight lining it directly into the gondola cars?

I am glad the extra money will be going to Moab. Not for Energy Soultions sake, but for the people that live there.
The manager at the site and the DOE rep in Grand Junction should be in jail. What they are doing to the workers and ignoring all radiological controls is criminal! The sad thing is that the people there do what they are told because they want a job. The RPM ignores all radiological controls and does what the DOE rep in Grand Junction tells him to do. He got the job there only because he would do what he was told.
The DOE rep from Grand Junction has cost the tax payers hundreds of thousand of dollars because of his arragance and incompatence. He dailey threatens the people there to do what he tells them or they will be gone or he will hold the money back to do the work.
If the press and the congressman that hold the budget knew of all the criminal acts that the manager and the DOE rep have done, there would be a national outcry to just stop everything until the criminals were replaced. It is that bad!!
In the past the manager had charges against him. Even though several people at the site confirmed the charges and added others, the corporate person said there was no basis because no one put it in writing.
Ok, I am really glad that the pile of dirt is going to be moved 30 miles away. BUT, it could stay there and be monitored by the TAC and save the tax payers the billon of dollars. But, with Obama in charge, just spend, spend, spend, and don't think about tomorrow.
