I love it.  I rented a  three bedroom, two bath house for the same price as a hotel room $900 for the month(hotel was $225 wk) and it was second row from the beach with ocean view.  The house techs and supervision there were great and the locals were all friendly.  Go CP&L!! ;D  I loved working for them.

Try the Longbeach Campgroung 910 273-5737 (RV's)

Southport rentals get expensive in the summer.
Can check with Oak Island Accommodations
at 800-243-0132 or 910-278-6011 . You can
probably get March, April, and May, possibly
most of June, but July and August are tough.
Best place to stay would be one of the beach
houses on Oak Island, preferably on Caswell
Beach part or Oak Island or one of the condos
by the golf course.

Oak Island Villas are real nice. They have everything including phone and cable. All you need is linens. Caswell Beach is nice, you can rent a four bedroom house on the beach for $400 to $500 and it will have everything included except your linens! Oak Island Accommodations also has this website.

Tips on places to stay.  AVOID THE PORT AT ALL COST! I stayed at the blue water point marina last outage and it was great, good view of the water from the back rooms and the staff is great, I believe the rate was around 225 after taxes a wk.

Areosquirl, glad to here you are comming ;D, and Jess we're sorry you're not! :' You'll find a pretty good list of the local housing  with phone numbers in the Facility Information Lodging thread. The place Jess mentioned also has a real good resturaunt! :P Nightshift is OK here, I hate it but I'm always on it for some strange reason???  Now what Jess said about 70' TB is if you are a deconner, and it shouldn't be quite as bad there this outage. We aren't doing all of the MSR work that we have in the past. If you're an HP there isn't a bad assignment, you'll love it here either way. The people, the weather, the plant are all good! And the Ice Cream is the best in the industry! 8) Look me up when you get here, I'm in HP Instruments, do you have a report date?

Blue Water Point is quiet and inexpensive (200/week) with microwave and small fridge. Seafood 5 nights a week. But long drive down the beach.

Hi,

I'll be interviewing for a position at Brunswick Tue (5/20). I'll be arriving mid day on 5/19. Where would the best place(s) to drive around to get a feel for the area and where would be a good place to drive to look for housing. I am use to driving 20 - 30 minutes to work each day if that helps.

Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

hdPaul1,
I'm a House HP at Brunswick. If you don't want to drive more than 20/ 30 minutes, you are very limited. Boiling Springs Lakes is 10 mins. Same for the greater metropolitan Southport Area. Supply and Bolivia are in the sticks and are a little bit further. Property will be much cheaper there. Oak Island is around 20 to 30 minutes away with no traffic. Problem is that for at least 6 months it is tourist season, and it's gridlock at times! All year at around 1600 to 1800 it is hard to get through no matter what! I live in Wilmington, it takes me exactly 50 minutes from my door to the plant. I hate the drive, but like living in Wilmington. You have everything you need, shopping dinning etc. Southport you have Wal Mart, but it closes at 2300. You have a few excellent restraunts as well. oak Island has a few as well, but little to no shopping.  Everywhere else you have to drive to what you want to do. Feel free to IM me, and I'll go into greater detail if you feel the need!

Heading to Brunswick?

Lodging info for Brunswick....

For those of you who may be going to Brunswick I have checked out called all the motels in the area. Average rate is $300 to $350+ tax. However....

I contacted boiling Springs Lakes motel and she is going to do a rate of $225 weekly. She sent me pics of the place and it looks fairly decent. It's older but looks really clean and comfy. It's 10 minutes from the plant away from the rat race traffic of Oak Island.

Boiling Springs Lakes Motel
2 N Shore Dr, Southport, NC
(910) 845-2893

Ask for Dale. Tell her you talked to me (dennis)

She will send you photos of the place if you ask her to....

Hope this helps!
