Rennhack:
27 miles west south west of the plant on US 1 in Sanford, is a place named The Palomino. You can get a monthly rate on an efficiency/studio motel room. It is your best bet. There are VERY few places around there, and most of them have roaches. I like the area a lot, Raleigh is one of my most favorite cities, and the view there is wonderful. But there are few places to stay, and the cheep ones have roaches. (Did I mention the roaches?) Stay away from Raleigh, Cary, & Apex, the prices are high.

Most contractors stayed down that way or if you are into RV'ing, there are several campgrounds around Jordan Lake within 10 miles of the plant.
There are State campgrounds at Crosswinds, Parker's Creek, Poplar Point, Ebenezer Point, and other areas. Should be listed in Woodall's or other good RV manual. Most are within the 10 mile radius of the plant.

More expensive hotel rates:

Ramada Inn in Apex (9miles from Harris), Hampton Inn, Days Inn, or Best Western in Cary off Walnut St. (about 15 miles). Apex also has a new motel across the street from the Ramada.


Looking for affordable housing close to Shearon-Harris?

I represent The Park Corporate Apartment Homes in Cary (15 minutes from Shearon-Harris). Cary, NC is an upscale area and may be expensive as a whole for temporary housing. However, I have a solution! Comfort Inn Apex 1411 East Williams St Apex NC this is the closest hotel to the plant. Just 9 miles from the hotel. Basically no traffic. Hotel has special rates for the outage. Free hot breakfast, complimentary WIFI, Guest Laundry and close to restaurants. All rooms come with microwave and refrigerators.  They do get booked up during the outage so call ahead. You will also earn points for your stay that you can use for future stays or redeem for gift cards. Nice, quite and clean place. 919-387-4600 mention you are with the outage. :)
