There are thousands of places for rent around Miami with far too many variables to discuss here. My recommendation is to contact a realtor. All the big names are around here, but the biggest local (well, Florida local) is Keyes Realtors. http://www.keyesrealtors.com/

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Keyes Realtors in any way at all. The Keyes office in Jensen Beach has treated me well. Past experience may not predict future behavior.

If you want VERY close to Turkey Point try Keys Gate. http://keysgate.com/ I think they require 12 month leases, but you can't get closer to the plant and there are plenty of places available. Kelley at KeysGate Realtors helped me a lot.

Keyes blows chunks.  They are a waste.  The largest RE down here, yes, that just means they have the most idiots.  I used a RE company in coral gables called Papillon llc and worked with Janie Coffee.  Developed world service vs the third world service you will get from the homestead locals.  Just pretend before you come down that you are going to Nicaragua and you'll be just fine.

The stuff down here is overpriced crapola especially when you consider it is the swamp and is very poor.  So, just make sure FPL pays you enough to live in decent place.  Count on 1700-2500/month for a nice place.  FIU I think is in the gables. C-Gables is nice, but 4k and up for a nice place.  Plus, unless its close to the T-pike, count on over an hour to get to work.

Kendall is not too bad and about the same price as homestead.  oh, its about 20-30 minutes up the road torwards Miami.  I just found something in Homestead first or I would have picked kendall.  Its an Older neighborhood with at least a little bit of character.  Homestead has all the character of Tijuana without the bars/women.  What good is TJ without women and booze?  yeah, not much good at all.  welcome to homestead.

I would hold off on the house buying.  Or get one at a foreclosure auction.  the houses in homestead are still 50% overvalued at least.  Miami condos on SoBe and Brickwell are going for 25 cents on the dollar.  Might be something to look into, but no way would I buy a house in a traditional manner.

It's always been high. We paid 900.00 a month for a beautiful home in Cutler Ridge in 1981.

I am so glad we did not buy a place when I was at Turkey Point 2004 - 2007. Yes Homestead sucks more then one could ever imagine. Living further north means you have to deal with traffic coming down the turnpike.

I could deal with the crappy management at the plant but when work sucks and where you live sucks that means something has to give.

I won't dispute anything in that ad except the 25 minutes. If you can do that, you are going by water in a very fast boat. There isn't a chance you can average 60 mph (it is 25 MILES to Turkey Point from the island to the plant, not counting the drive on the island) up the '18 mile stretch' between the island and the mainland and the speed limit on the last 6 or 7 miles is 40 mph. I had to allow 45 minutes minimum to make the trip. As I have said before, it is beautiful and can be worth it in the short run, but there is a price to pay on 12 hour shifts.

Found new, clean and comfortable lodgings with secure parking, only 3 miles from the plant.  Hard to find new hotels in Homestead, liked its location near shops and theater too.  Definitely coming back to Value Place Hotel.  Found out there is a special discount for Turkey Point, be sure and ask for it.

Hi. Came across this forum and thought I might be able to get some help. My husband and I and our daughter will be headed down to turkey point in a week or two maybe, he will be working at the nuclear plant. Anyways, were looking for a place to away for a few months. We've been there before and stay In key largo at this marina and it was absolutely horrible. Looking for a place close to plant in homestead or something. Key largo is too far. Also access to a w/d. If anyone knows of anything please help. Thank you in advance.
