I stayed in one of Kennedys cabins. I would recommend them. Very close to the plant and the rent was reasonable. The cabin I had was pretty ratty though, roaches in my workboots, wasps flying in through the holes in the walls, about as dirty inside as I ever seen. I think I had one of the older cabins because there were some much newer nicer looking ones next door. My rent was $70/week.
There was a campground nearby that had a laundry facilities. Sneak in there on your night off to get the laundry done. Otherwise theres a laundermat in Waynesboro.
If you check into a motel in Augusta make sure it isn't a "no tell motel", unless that's what you're looking for. I checked into the Super 8 my first night there and turns out every other guest there was drug dealers and crack whores. The phone was ringing and people pounding on the door all night long, miserable night.

Stay away from Motel 6 off 95 in Evans GA. We stayed there a few weeks back while selling at a show in Augusta. Not only was it filthy (the health dept. found numerous problems and violations); but someone there used my credit card to purchase prepaid phone cards for an inmate....

I live in Augusta,  stay away from the motels on either Peach Orchard or Gorden Highway.  These can be rough at times.

I stayed with select corporate housing the last time I was there, the rates were reasonable for what were offered.  Three bedroom, fully furnished, linens included, in an upscale community for 86 a day after tax.  If you're bringing the kids, or planning on sharing it's a great option. There is a deposit that they will put towards your stay, and they are extremely accommodating.  The full size washer and dryer basically made the stay pay for itself for me.

Plant Vogtle-Help!Where do I live?
Got a conditional offer from Southern Nuclear.  Where do I live?  Seems like every place is 30-45 minutes away.  I want to live in a semi nice area that is semi close to civilization!  I've lived in downtown Columbus for years and want a more urban atmosphere.  Does anyone know anything about Augusta?

I'm in the same boat.  It look like I can live close to the plant and far away from most conveniences or 45 minutes from the plant and close to modern convenience.  I don't mind the rural areas but I want to rent for a couple of years and get to know the area first.  There are not a lot of rentals near the plant.

I've heard Evans is pretty nice but really far from the plant.  I've been told to avoid the areas to the South East of Augusta.  Hephzibah seems to be the best compromise but it is still a good 40 minute drive to the plant.

Good luck house hunting and congratulations on the job offer.

Yeah, I just need a 1 bedroom....The people I interviewed with said that they lived in Evans.  I look at  the apartments off Tobacco road, but it's still so far....grrrr  ;) Life is never fair, get a job offer, but the places I 've seen in Augusta seem like 20 year old war zones!

I'm in the same boat as well. There just isn't any place close to the plant (maybe by design). I certainly like North Augusta best. That will be an hour's drive it looks like. You can get used to anything I suppose.

When I saw the title of this thread it reminded me of some of the parties we used to have in the mid-seventies.

Imagine my disappointment at the real subject matter.  :P

To be honest, I would rather be shot (with a pellet gun)than attempt the drive from Evans to Plant Vogtle. The traffic is a mad house at times and I don't believe there is any way you can make the trip in less than 1 1/2 hours but I may be wrong. North Augusta is okay as long as you stay in the right place.

Just wanted to point out that I've never been shot with anything other than a pellet gun but I wanted the reader to understand what a pain in the rear (yep that's where I was shot) the drive from Evans to Vogtle was going to be.  ;)

ARRA at SRS has filled up many places and that should end 9/11 (odd) as the $$$ runs out, way out, if not before. Some have left already. One guy lived in an apartment walking distance from Augusta National downtownish. Good luck with housing. I'd go temp as possible till you get a feel for the area and traffic.

I applied there first and later got hired at Hatch. Now I'm glad it worked out that way.

Evans is where I wanted to live but the drive was going to be hard after 12 hr shifts. Martinez is a little of a compromise and still north and still nice. If you like Martinez and live close to I 20 you should be able to make it in about 45 min depending on time of day. At least it's not Atlanta traffic.

Vogtle is in the country. If you want to live near a mall or lots of store, then be prepared for a long drive to work every day.

Or you can live in the country, like around Waynesboro, and drive on your day off to the stores.
