Rain Man,
Mike is correct, I'll start a new thread for other things.
Lodging info is as follows:
Shores Condominium Resorts
1801 E. Perry St.
(419)734-2169
Green Cove Resort Owners Assn.
3970 N. Mary Ann Dr.
(419)797-2223
Come Sail Away Condos
2039 E. Harbor Rd.
(419)734-6429
Island House Inn
(419) 734-2166
All but Green Cove are in town, Green Cove is right by the plant, convenient to work, but you have to drive at least 15 mins for everything else! Remember when renting a condo, every one is different, If the one they show you doesn't suit you, ask to see another one. Sometimes you can find one with nice extras like a washer and dryer, or big screen TV for little or no extra cost. The Island House is a nice Hotel in town, and they used to have killer good happy hours as I previously stated, and if you stay there you don't have to worry about DUI's

This is a warning message about Erie Island Resort and Marina, 4495 Darr Hopfinger rd. here in Port Clinton, OH (Davis Besse). I had been staying here since march for $500 a month didn't have to pay for utilities or phone, they stated rates would not go up for the summer for Davis Besse people.  Well in May I went ahead and paid for three months in advance just to make sure they didn't book it up for the busy season, it's a time share place and the owners come down for the summer.  I get home yesterday and they left a note on my door that said i have to move out today and that I will not be getting a refund and stated that I still owed them $900.00. They're trying to tell me that the $1500 I paid on May 15 was just for May 15 to June 15 because of the rate increase and not for the next three months. Let's see, June 15 to July 2, roughly about 2 weeks, half of $1500 is $750. I'm from down south, is the math up here different? I am not the only one they are doing this to, the guy living under me is in the same situation with them. I guess I should have gotten it in writing. I just want to make sure that no one else has to deal with these people again.

Thanks.

REMEMBER this address!!!  129 N. Locust Street, Oak Harbor! I'd advise you sleep under a bush in the snow rather then rent from these people. I worked Besse for close to 2 yrs. and made the mistake of renting there - it is a small house smack downtown Oak Harbor, sits on the corner of Rt.19 & Water St. across from the laundrymat & daycare.

The owners seem great until you move it. My front door was held in place by duct tape the entire time, the porch roof leaks so you can't put anything out there, basement backs up with toilet/shower water it also has a big crack running down the wall so big you can look outside and the snow, etc. comes right on in, garage roof leaks so much water pours in, bathroom ceiling leaks as well. Major electric problems in house, sockets zap and smoke, electric goes out for days on end destroying any food you have not to mention I lost my TV, micro. etc. YES I did complain, wrote letters, made phone calls, etc. kept getting promises it would get done... never did.

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!! It is like living in a nightmear.... believe me.

Here is a great one bedroom condo next to Davis-Bessie in Green Cove resort, see website for pictures and rates. About $150 per week plus electric.

http://www.vacationrentals411.com/vacation/13697.html

Very attractive newer one bedroom, one bath, well maintained condominium decorated in a nautical theme. It has a balcony off the bedroom and a louvered glass enclosed screen porch off the living room. The bedroom has a queen size bed, double dresser, chair, nightstand, TV and VCR. The living room has a vaulted ceiling with two skylights and a spectacular ships sail paddle fan. It also has a Queen size sofa bed, queen size futon, entertainment center with cable TV, AM/FM Stereo, coffee table and end table. There is a six foot sliding glass patio door opening to the glass enclosed screened in porch with a table and 4 chairs. This is a great place to have your coffee in the morning and watch the ducks and geese swimming or a cocktail in the evening while watching the sunset and the fish jumping in the lagoons .The porch overlooks Lake Erie and the lagoons with a spiral staicase going down to the boat dock that has an electric hookup and water available. Bring your Jet-Ski or boat up to 30 foot and dock it at the back door. It has a fully equipped galley kitchen with full size appliances including a dishwasher. It is separated from the living room with a wet bar counter and stools on the living room side. The full size bathroom has a vanity with a sink and has a full size tub with a shower. There is also a washer & dryer for your convenience.  This is in the newest and most sought after phase of the Green Cove Condominiums. It is completely stocked with towels, linens, cookware, dishware, utensils, glasses and etc. This is a quiet end unit on the second floor that is very bright and airy. There is a covered carport right at the front door. There is a charcoal BBQ and picnic table next to the carport. Boat launch, marina, gas dock and charter boats in the resort complex. There is a swimming pool, tennis courts, sandy beach on the lake and a catch and release fishing pond for the kids. There is a restaurant, convenient store, gas station and a lounge on the complex. And of you who are at or near Davis Besse, take a drive down route 58 and go to Wellington Ohio. Then eat at the Pizza House which in my opinion has the best pizza in the world. While you're there tell Aunt Carmel that Mike and Lauri love her and want the dang recipe to her sauce!

Not sure what your starting point is....................
But the times are wrong........Sandy Beach, Wild Wings Marina, Restaurant, Lounge, Convenience Store on site is LESS than 5 minutes from the plant.
Port Clinton / Oak Harbor / Camp Perry is 30 minutes from the plant.
African Safari is over 30 minutes from Besse
Mon Ami Winery - over 30 minutes from Besse
Put In Bay this time of year - doubtful

Thats a long drive from Davenport Florida every day. The website says it is in Davenport.

No kidding...if I had my choice I'd go to Florida this time of year.  ;D
When you go to that website - go down the page to where it states "view other members here"
click there - go in and click the Oak Harbor Listing..............hope that helps.....

I grew up there. Camp Perry is at the most 15 minutes from the plant, same with Oak Harbor and Port Clinton. African Safari maybe 20 minutes. Given it's only 35 minutes to Milan from Davis Besse it's impossible Camp Perry is 30 minutes away. All times are driving the posted Speed Limit on Route 2.

Does anyone have any information on the Island House since it has remodeled and reopened after the fire a few years ago?  I stayed there once before the redo and loved the place.  There was a great bar/resturant called Conrads Porterhouse.  Their website has a new name for their bar.  Not confirmed for DB's outage, but should be.

The quote is old, but the info is new.  The Island House just reopened last summer after it went belly up in 2005.  I have not been happy with their service.  I did however enjoy their French Onion soup all five times that I gave them a try.  I live about a 1/4 of a mile from them and will wait a long while before I give them my money again because I was so unhappy with the wait staff on all of those visits.  I guess being consistently bad is their new motto.  They are lucky that I still tip 15% for BAD service.

Spring 2010 Outage starts Feb 28, 2010.

A previous post a made here: http://www.nukeworker.com/forum/index.php/topic,870.0.html

They are open, but you may not be as happy with them now as you were in the past.

Well, I did decided to stay at the Island House for this outage at Davis Besse.  This is the first outage I've stayed there since it reopened.  I'm very pleased with the Island House and will definitely stay there again.
The Island House is a hotel that dates from the late 1800's with a warm feel when you enter the lobby; carpeted floors, piano, large staircase going to the two upper floors ( yes, there is an elevator ).  The staff is very friendly and accommodating.  The off season rates for outages are competitive with the other hotels/motels in Port Clinton.  There are no two rooms that are the exactly same in both size and decor.  Unlike modern hotels, the type that tend to be all designed the same to minimize construction costs, maximize the utilization of square footage, and if you've seen one room, you've seen them all.  The only thing different between these hotels is the name on the marque. Since it was just remodeled, all the rooms have WI-Fi, flat screen TV's, and nice thick comfortable mattresses.  There is a sports bar in the hotel and a more formal restaurant.  Everything I've tried was good.  There are three other bar/restaurants across the street.  Lots of drinking with no driving, always a good thing.  Plus there are a handful of other places to eat within a short walk.
The only thing negative is that there is no on site laundry.  They do offer a weekly drop off/ pick up service.

The last couple of outages I stayed at the Commodore Perry.  This is a very popular place.  It is a nice hotel, but meets my description of a modern hotel above.  The price is competitive.  There is a bar/restaurant in the hotel, the food is good, but if you want to go somewhere else to eat and drink the nearest is ~1/2 mile away.  To my knowledge, their bar is the only bar open in the morning for the night shift.

Don't waste your money on the Green Cove condo with the nautical theme!! We never received our deposit back and the owners will not return our calls or emails. The condo itself was clean and very well-stocked. We were very disappointed with the beach which was tiny and seemed dangerous for our young children with large rock/cement boulders. There were more broken shells than sand on the beach too, so it wasn't comfortable to walk on or play on for kids. A big reason we chose this location was for beach access, so we felt deceived. The playground was overgrown with weeds and my daughter got a splinter from it. We were also not given the address of the condo until after we paid for it, hiding the fact that it is next door to a huge power plant. It was like vacationing at Chernobyl! It is also much farther from Port Clinton and Sandusky than we thought, and we had to drive half an hour to find a grocery store. Don't expect cable TV either, because there were only a few good channels. The best part of our trip was Put-in-Bay and Cedar Point.
