Never been to Monticello before, so I'm assuming these are all within 10-15 minutes of the plant. Please PM me if there is anything you dont want to put on the public board.

Thanks

Do NOT under any circumstances stay at the Monticello Americinn. They are extremely rude, act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to stay there, and I am pretty sure that they went through my stuff while I was at work at the Monticello station. I lost many items.

I just spent some time at the Super 8 in Buffalo.  Mona has weekly and monthly rates that are very good for the area.  My monthly was less than $40/day single.  About 20 minutes to the plant.  Ask for a room on the 'front' side (away from the highway) as the trains get a little noisy.  Has indoor pool, no laundry on site, coffee and light breakfast in the office, coffee pots, micros and refridgerators in rooms.

Need to reserve if you are going to outage as she is already popular.

Can't say anything about the other motels in the area.

We have stayed at the Super 8 in Becker several times but the last we stayed there it had really gotten run down. Would not recommend it to anyone based on our last stay there.

I stayed at the Best Western in Monticello my last time there. The full hot breakfast every morning in the attached chinese restaurant , quiet, clean, indoor pool and only about 10 minutes to the plant. The price was the same as the Days Inn across the street and not a whole lot higher than Amercinn. If I make it back, I'll stay there again.

Keith ~

IF you make it back?  How could you not?
If there's still ice on the lake you can stay in my fish house?!?!

In Becker there's a brand spanking new hotel.  I think they do some weekly rates discounts.

Sleep Inn ,Inn & Suites
14435 Bank Street
Becker, MN 55308
Nightly Rates: ($80.95 - $139.95)

If you look on craigslist for the minneapolis area under "rooms/shared" there are a few furnished places if you dont mind sharing with someone of course.  I didnt see any temp places in monti or surrounding areas (well at least within a 20 mile radius) that had multiple bedrooms and were furnished.
I do know however, that quite a few of the residents do offer places in the area (I personally talked with one very nice gentleman at a mattress store in september about the outages and he and his wife rent out a bedroom for it), and I'll have my wife check around to see if she hears of anything from our neighbors.

I can't wait to get home and shovel that snow ;-).

Thank you Jason!!  Our situation is a little different than the "typical" outage workers.  We travel with our two young children and my mother-in-law will be traveling with us to watch the kiddos while we work.  So, we need a place all to ourselves... LOL

Feel free to email me directly, if you find anything additional.  I really appreciate it!!

I was just looking online yesterday on corporate housing in Minneapolis and found some websites that had furnished apartments in St Cloud and Minneapolis.  I'm not sure what the cost on them is yet, but I am looking at those.  We travel with a small dog and like to stay in apartments or houses that feel like home.  I looked up one called Oakdale.......but like i said i don't know about pricing yet.  Good luck, maybe we'll see ya there.

I've already spoken to Oakdale and they  told me they could get me into a 2 bedroom for $2850 a month..... pretty steep.

Lorrie,
Sorry for this late note but just saw yours.  I found a furnished house in Big Lake using craigslist.  It might be too late for you now but thought I would pass it along.

If traveling with an RV...

River Terrace Park
1335 River Street West
Monticello, MN
763-295-2264

They don't officially open until April 1st but will support early arrivals for the outage.  It will be dry camping (no running water) until April 1st but sewer and electric hookups.
The owner says he can run a garden hose to fill fresh water tanks a few times a week until then.
