I must admit I had to think about which 3 states to choose.

I chose Pennsylvania (spent a nice year working at Beaver Valley), North Carolina (where I am living now near Wilmington), and Georgia (where I worked my first outage at Vogtle).   ;D

Wow Red.. you could be a poster boy for South Carolina!!  You really like it, huh!!  We've been contemplating moving and SC is one of the states we are looking at.. All that you wrote sounds good, but do you know about school districts?  Good ones to be in?  Bad ones to stay out of?  Just thinking towards the future here...

Thanks for your input!!

Either of the Carolinas are great and Maine is fantastic but Colorado has 300 days of sunshine/yr, 500# deer (they call 'em elk), top'o the world skiing and Denver has a micro-brewery on every corner. The sailing lacks a bit though.

By far, I would have to say North Carolina. This state has everything from mountains to beaches to large cities. The roads are well taken care of, the people are generally friendly and there are opportunities to see a live sporting event at both the collegiate and professional levels. What more could one ask for?? ;D

Alabama, Florida and Maine. I didn't choose my home state as I live here and I was thinking of places I'd either like to move to or like to visit.

Alabama always pulls me home as I was born there and spent many wonderful times there, my several generations of my family are buried there and many cousins still live there. Also Andrew and Julie (son and wife) are there and its only a short trip down to Gulf of Mexico.

Florida, again I feel the pull towards here. I love the weather (hurricanes aside), the Gulf of Mexico and the many hidden treasures that Florida still offers.

Maine, well it was a tie between Maine and CT. I don't know I felt at home here. I loved "The Fall" and "Almost Summah" of the Northeast. The quaint shops, casinos, first snow and the people.

Love my Missouri because it's home.  The Smoky Mountains took my breath away in Tennessee and the ocean in Florida was awe-inspiring.  I must admit though that I've seen something beautiful and met some enjoyable people in every state I've been in.

There are so many great things to see and experience in this country in various states. I have lived in many of them like many on this site. I love California for short stays, particularly during the winter months but all in all, Michigan is home. 4 seasons, beautiful summers, fall and spring, great outdoor activities anytime of the year and mostly a very natural setting throughout the upper 3/4 of the state.

It just feels like home.

I can't stand...

1. Tennesee!
2. Virginia!
3. Idaho!

Although I live in North Carolina, I grew up in East LA (south of Dothan), I call Georgia my Home state (Dawgs).  Most of my time is spent in the state of confusion, so I guess I got the best of everything southern.

Chose Oregon and Vermont 'cause they're two sides of the same coin (and Portland's my favorite place) and Florida 'cause I grew up there. We just moved to North Carolina, so as I get to know it, it may move up on my list of great places.

Idaho and Wyoming for the winter sports!   Snowmobiling heaven!
Alaska (if you've never been, you won't understand)
Not too crowded yet in Idaho or Wyoming, that to me is a big factor!
I think the cold weather has a lot to do with it, but, it is a small price
to pay for low crime, no traffic, clean air, etc...

I am going to have to add Massachusetts to my top 3 for their unemployment check of 625 a week.  I have  only been there once.  The Airport and the unemployment office.  Then I go back to my most favorite state TN no state Tax and my family lives there so Imake it Numero Uno.  Except for unemployment checks of 275 a week which suck!!! LOL.

Montana - first state lived in after leaving home (Ohio),  First time seeing weeks/months on end of blue sky and sunny days.  (if you've spent any time in OH you know what I'm talking about)

Oregon -  most beautiful and green state I've been to.  (Been to all but four)

California - can't stand to stay for the whole year lately but damn there's almost no end to fun stuff to do year round

Gotta say I loved my years in upstate NY.  It got pushed out of my top 3 by CA.

Also gotta say OH ain't all bad.  Fishing is awesome and you can find some nice deer too.

My 3 were Md, FL, and AL. I'm from MD so it is my favorite, it has the 4 seasons and the winters are pretty much mild compared to up north. Summers are great on the water. DC is close enough for a days sightseeing trip, yet far enough from all the crime. FL was my 2nd, I'm currently working CR-3 and have been here since August. The Nature's Coast is beautiful!!!! Everything under the sun to do, and once all the snow birds leave the roads will be safer to drive on. AL was my 3rd pic, I worked Farley last spring and really loved the area. The people were some of the nicest! The beaches were close. The weather was awesome.
