At the moment I'm reading this.
http://www.ibiblio.org/kuphaldt/socratic/sinst/book/liii.pdf

THAT will give me a couple days of studying!  Thanks!  :)

Taking I&C test for an apprenticeship position. Been studying electrical circuits books from school and digital. What else should I be looking over?

Just curious, did you read this post... Or have you already studied everything that was posted in it as suggested study material? :)

It seems to me that there are a number of good ideas posted about what you should study, but I'm not an I&C person, so what do I know?  ;)

What are they asking for as a required background?  I'd use that as the basis for my study.  If they want people with electronics background, study the electronics stuff.  I wouldn't get too carried away with trying to teach yourself I&C concepts for an apprenticeship test...they'll teach you that stuff when you get in.

As I've said before...Creeker's advice was right on the money for me to get my first I&C job:
When I hired into my present utility, we had an I&C test which contained the following:
1.  Basic Electronics -- Resistor color codes, ohms law, KVLs, KCLs, capacitance, inductance...
2.  Power triangle type problems
3.  LOTs of detector problems...  LVDT, dry reference leg vented to atmosphere, atmospheric pressure changes, what happens to displayed pressure.. That sort of thing, for every different type of detector configuration you could imagine.
4.  Not much at all on PLCs
5.  No hard core stuff... encoder wheels, etc, but there was a couple transducer problems, RTD and thermocouples...
6.  No AOV stuff that I can remember, but maybe a question or 2 on reference leg's being cracked open on a 5 valve manifold.

That's about all I can remember!

Bill

It said 2 year degree in electronics. Figure there will be some control questions mixed in. A lot of good material scattered thru this thread but seems a little overkill for what I need. The mass/poss I found to be fairly easy test. Just worried about this one. Graduated electronics school 8 years ago and haven't used it since.

Yeah. I'm kind of in that same boat.  Have to take another entrance exam in a couple of weeks.  I graduated in electronics about the same time you did...and haven't had to take an I&C specific test in about 5 years.  I'm glancing through the electronics texts I listed earlier (and doing lots of problems from Phagan to get my brain in gear):
Electronics Math, R. Jesse Phagan

Electronic Devices, Thomas L. Floyd

Applied Electricity & Electronics for Technology, Rodney B. Faber

...and then looking through the other material I've posted on this thread.

Good luck!   :)

Well, I passed, so that's a relief.

All your typical pressure, level, flow, and temperature questions...plus some basic electronics, radiation detection, and nuclear instrumentation.

The two most useful pieces of study material for this one were:

I am looking for a college or business that offers the Poss/Mass test.  I currently work for one of the utilities but do not want to take it thru my employer.  Is there another place to take this test?  I have taken this test thru my employer last year and they won't give me my results.  They don't say if you pass or fail.  They only say that you are no longer being considered for this position.  The test was not difficult.  It was fast paced but not hard by any means!  I am confident that I passed this test!  Any suggestions????

I've heard of some schools that prep you for the tests, but not sure whether any actually give the test - or if you still go to the utility to take it?

I'd poke around for answer HERE if I were you:

Based on conversations I've had: Hanford does NOT have a test for Instrument Specialists.

I will let you know if I find out differently...interview Monday for a similar slot.
