The Book Barn just west of Niantic (toward East Lyme), and the Book Barn Annex downtown Niantic.  Of course, you have to visit Mystic, Stonington Borough, The Bank Street Cafe in downtown New London, Billy Willson's Ageing Still in Norwich, and the Old Lyme Tavern.

there is a place in down town Niantic called "Saeds" (SP?) and they have by far the BEST !! Fresh sliced lamb and beef off the roaster gyros and greek food . I loved it there cause they also had the best olives and they had 26 different olive oils there to choose from . Also they had a number of fresh spices to choose from and there prices were fantastic.

In Mystic there is the Captain Daniel Packard Inne... by far the best food and service I have had to date.  The prices are a bit steep, but well worth it.  Get there early and go downstairs to the bar.

The Packer was full of snobby yuppie wannabes when I lived there.
I recommend the Skipper's Dock in Stonington.

Don't miss Paul's Pasta.   It's on the river in Groton.  The homemade fettucini alfredo is outstanding!

I'll have to third The Shack.  Breakfast there is great!  There's also a fish place down the road from that a piece (the name escapes me off-hand, I'll have to get back with it) that's decently priced and has some good food.

Mohegan Sun is a decently large casino - although I'm not a fan of how it's laid out.  Plenty of shopping there if you don't want to gamble.  I've also heard the Wolf Den (I think it's the Wolf Den) inside Mohegan is a nice bar to go to if want to hear some good music.  While you're in the Mohegan area, if you're into seeing nice, old abandoned buildings, take a drive by the old Norwich State Hospital up in Preston, CT.  It's been closed down for several years now, and a company is currently trying to buy/develop the land... but while the buildings stand, it's a beautiful piece of history.

Crystal Mall is also a nice place to do some shopping - fairly large, two levels.

And if, by some horrible fate, you need car repairs done - talk to Steve at Woody's in Groton right by the sub base.  Good bunch of guys there, very honest and helpful.  They're always busy, so they may not be the fastest, but they WILL do you right.

And do NOT take Harry's cab service.  Unless you're ok with your driver going over 95, or with getting pulled over when your driver is tagged going 84 in a 55.

For anyone heading to Millstone this spring, the Flagship Inn in Groton still has lots of rooms available (so they told me today.)

$200/wk plus tax for Bartlett
* Refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker in all guest rooms
* HBO with local cable TV and daily USA TODAY newspaper in lobby.
* Health club privileges to local gym.
* Free wireless Internet.
* Fee continental breakfast.
* Easy access from I95, conveniently located near restaurants, supermarket, full service laundromats, liquor store and gas station
www.theflagshipinn.com
1-888-800-0770 or 1-860-405-1111

I'm not certain Joey's sent the info out yet, but I verified the price and the wireless 'net today when I reserved.

Flagship has been good to me also!!!  But if your day shift no paper and Continental breakfast. You have to go in early. Maybe we can get them to put it out at 515 for dayshift outage people.  still a real good deal when diem is 770 a week and after a month tax goes away.   Gym priveleges for free is good. Can walk to the laundramat and a great place to eat.  Can't recall the name but it is right next to the laundramat so you can do clothes while you eat.

Just for the record, Paul's Pasta is still in business.  They don't serve a single bad dish - I recommend everything in their menu!   :)

Lodging in Niantic can be scarce for outage. I urge workers to look into the Motel 6 which has been fully renovated. The staff is friendly and treats you like family. It is a nice area and the staff will put you in a quiet area if requested to ensure you get peaceful rest. Very clean with comfy beds. The rates are great not to mention the owner works deals to ensure you get the best for your money. This motel has great reviews with close to a 4 star rating and only minutes from Millstone. The motels information is below:
