Point Beach or Kewannee:

Cool City Motel is a great place to stay! Family oriented, management is great... will even do your laundry for a very small fee. Pets allowed for those of you who bring your friends. Rooms with kitchens, pots & pans, coffee pots, etc. also rooms without kitchens, even a very private upstairs unit with two seperate rooms that share one bath for those who have a partner they don't mind sharing bathroom with... very good rates! Management will work with the per diem issue allowing you to pay rent when you receive first per diem check (for those of us who have money problems due to lack of work).About 10 mintues from Point Beach, 20 from Kewannee, located off Hwy 42 (main road) of Two Rivers - great home cooking eating spots in immediate area! Call to reserve early they fill up fast! Very good rates as well... Remember - fishing season is the last week of Sept. thru Oct. so if the outage is scheduled during that time ALL places book up months in advance. You might want to pre-plan for the Fall.

Stayed at the Cool City Motel years ago and it was pleasant and there was a great steak house across the road (Mahoots?).

A co-worker stayed at Fox hills and that was the place to be.

Have a Great Weekend,

The Historic Karsten Inn
This is a grand old hotel in downtown Kewaunee WI. It's about 30 min north of the plant.
There is a turn of the century lobby, bar and fancy restaurant on the first floor, the rooms are on the second and third floors. Very posh in a 1890's sort of way.
This place normally caters to upscale yuppie Bed-n-Breakfast types from Illinois, but the outage season is their slow time of the year, and they offer reduced weekly rates to nukeworkers. I think it's like $120 a week or something. Not bad.
Worth considering.
For information call Roswitha 1-800-250-1625.

Anyone staying in Kewaunee for the spring '07 outage? It seems to be a nice place to stay, but local accomodations look scant. Manitowoc seems better in that regard.

Harrison Harbor House is great! 85 a week. wood stove, right on the harbor. Ron and Barb are great too!

During the 2 months I was at PB for the last outage(4-5-08), I stayed at the Heritage Inn in downtown Manitowoc. Standard no frills hotel room with small fridge, microwave, and TV. No internet that I was aware of but didn't miss it. The Indian family that manages it was friendly and eager to please and kept the place reasonably clean. There is a Chinese restaurant in the same building and several other bars and restaurants within walking distance, even a strip club if that's your thing.
Being downtown, I wasn't sure what kind of an area it was before I arrived, but the streets are deserted at 2am on a Saturday and the hotel is right across the street from the police station. There are local shops in the downtown area or you can go back towards the freeway where there is a Target opening, a Shopco, Applebee's, and a Starbucks (tell the girls their regular from Detroit says "Hi"!). There is a laundrymat nearby but I would suggest the one on the north end of town. The drive to the plant is nice along the shore and takes about 20-25 min.
While staying at the Heritage, I was paying $198 (with taxes) per week. After 1 month, the taxes were refunded and I paid $175 therafter. Be warned though, they are changing over to be an Econolodge and are starting renovations (the new beds are great!!) so the price may go up. However, a number of guys staying there said that they would go back as well, including a few that have stayed in Two Rivers hotels before.
Feel free to post any questions!

Rental

1310 South 16th
Manitowoc, Wisconsin 54220
Cell Phone: 920-366-2130
Email: gsdougdvorak@yahoo.com

I may be permently retired from the nuclear industry because of my horrendous accident, but a new set of procedures has been presented to me to be fulfilled.

A duplex in Manitowoc’s south side (close to the lake, Walmart, Festival Foods, dining establishments, I-43, etc.) has been granted to me to be the manager of for my nuclear brethren coming in for outages and other contract work.

I’ve set up residence in the lower unit, but the upper unit remains open to you for rent. Rents have been divided up because of schedules and are as follows: Monthly Rental is $1,200 with additional add on weeks to be added in at $300 a week. If the unit is only needed for a few week periods (less than one month) a charge of $350 is being addressed. All electrical, cable, internet and water billing are already included in the rent cost.

It is a dual bedroom, one bathroom unit. With a full kitchen, refrigerator, sink with garbage disposal and all dining supplies granted. The living room is set up with full seating in front of a television - with DirectTV provided. Also, there is a large desk with a full PC set up and plenty of writing room. A router is integrated to provide Wi-Fi abilities also when needed. Full internet provided.

A maid service comes in weekly to do cleaning, including the sheets on the beds. Full laundry is provided in the basement for personal use.
A two stall garage is part of the premises, leaving one stall open to the upstairs Nuclear personnel. More than adequate room is available also on the driveways for parking a secondary vehicle.

A full backyard (fenced in) – with a patio block set and grill are also available.

2 bedrooms upstairs - share the occupancy and split the cost!

Only a short scenic drive up the shoreline of Lake Michigan to the nuclear plant.

I stayed at the cool city motel in two rivers its about 10min from the plant and it is an old motel with no a/c on lower floors but the beds are new and very comfortable the couple that manage it are very welcoming and will do what they can to help. I paid in the fall 2011 $222.00 a week and after the 4th week you get all your taxes you paid back and it drops to $200 a week. the lower floors you can rent a small fridge for $7.00

The Best Western Lakefront hotel [/b] in Manitowoc, WI, is always my favorite place to stay. They have a point beach rate of 69.00, flat screen tvs, a bar, free breakfast buffett, updated rooms, and the view is amazing! the pool and hotub is nice too. Nothing beats the sauna after a long day at the plant. This is my favorite place to stay because of the staff. They are always friendly, They even have night time housekeepers for us on night shift. call them up and reserve now tho, they book up pretty fast during outage season. 920-682-7000.
