DOE Adjudication-Is anyone familiar with how DOE adjudication works? My adjudicator told me he would be done in less then 2 weeks and its been a month. I did hear though that my case has to make a couple more stops before I am cleared. From Oak Ridge to New Mexico to DC. Anyone know much about all that I am getting impatient. Thanks

Your clearance is now in the hands of one person who will present it for authorization. It is best not to look for to much consistency. It's close just be patient. My two weeks took a month and a half.

Did yours have to jump around all those different places as well? It seems theres to much bureaucracy the clearance system.

The length of time and early processing depend a lot on where you were and how many companies you worked for, they do go talk to everyone including ex's. When you get to adjudication, information collection is pretty much done and you are being processed by one individual who is consolidating your folder for approval. you may be contacted for some clarification and additional signatures during this part.
Yes there is a lot of bureaucracy.

Get and keep a copy of all your information!!!!

It is now done electronicly and I lost my last one and had to start all over, and only had a week to get it done

Excellent advice I had to resubmit my package twice because it got lost in the system.

If they lose my paperwork this late in the game I think I would suffer a stroke, but knowing my luck it would not surprise me. I am just curious why it needs to make som many stops before I hear back. TN to NM to DC is crazy. Hopefully they dont snail mail and send through some database or somehting

Someone please tell me they will be done soon just to make me feel better about it...

i know i will get the call when I'm least expecting it but it is driving me nuts, ive wanted this job 4everrrrrrrrrrrrr and i have waited 4everrrrrrrrr.

18 months average and depending on your need-- if you are at the technical level that is a low level need, scientist higher level need and so on, you can go on line and check your status. if it is in process you are near the end which means less than 6 months to go.

i was tracking mine all around da country. i had peeple from all over calling me up wanting to know what i was doing, had done, or watt was up with this fed guy coming around axing questions. of coarse, that was in the 80s, before a lot of people got exposed....

the thing is my investigation has been closed for months, even my adjudication is done, the dude said he was gonna approve it and he would be done no less then two weeks. well that was 41 days ago now and i know the holidays have slowed things down but c,mon. but i guess when hes done on oak ridge he has to send it to NM then to DC so i guess its floating somewhere around the country. i have hated this process, i shouldnt take this long in 1970 let alone 2008.

You had better get used to this torrid pace if you are going to work DOE.

All of DOE seems to be in a contest to see who can do it slower.

I thought people were kidding when they told me what it was like, But they weren't.

Marlin-Do you know what process a case goes through once it gets adjudicated. I always that that once they were done in Oak Ridge I would be done with it all, but thats was in November when my adjudicator said he was going to grant me access but I haven't heard a word. I know you have to be patient during this process but mine is running thin. What could they possibly be doing with it now?

Your adjudicator is probably in New Mexico, My wife is almost done with hers and it is taking longer than I expected. Like I said before don't expect too much consistency with the process. Adjudication should be your final step. You can ask what your status is but they won't tell you anything but you are in adjudication.

i know for sure my adjudicator was from oak ridge but i dont understand why they have to send it to new mexico...just seems like a waste but i dunno i guess they have a good reason for it.

You aren't confusing the investigator and the adjudicator are you?

No, their are quite a few adjudicators at Oak Ridge Operations. I live in Ohio but I thought there was only one centralized adjudicating facilty but I guess not. My investigator is from my hometown.

All DOE reviews go to ABQ NM now.

Here is DOE's best guess as to the time frame:

GRANTS
L > 180 working days
HRP/Q > 250 working days from test date depending on DOE/HQ turn around time.
Q > 250 working days
