A way to get in!

All,
I have recommended in a few posts to look into internships. I was looking on Exelon's website and noticed this posting for a "2009 Technical Internship":

"   Job Description
   The technical intern will participate in a ten-week rotation program.  Interns will job shadow employees thru Operations, Maintenance (Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation & Control), and Radiation Protection departments.  Start date will be June 1, 2009. Below is a description of departments:

o Operations
Responsible for operating and monitoring plant systems, and equipment in a nuclear generating system.

o Maintenance (Mechanical)
Installs, adjusts, inspects, performs diagnostic troubleshooting and makes all repairs to the nuclear plant systems, equipment and building structures.

o Maintenance (Electrical)
Performs electrical construction and maintenance work within the station and associated sub-station.

o Maintenance (Instrumentation & Control)
Assists to install, adjust and maintain all instruments used in a nuclear power station.

o Radiation Protection
Effectively manages the radiation dose that its employees, contractors and the public receives as a result of the operation of its nuclear power plants.
   Additional Qualifications
   Must be pursuing an Associate Degree in Science or an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in the following fields:  Nuclear Technology, Power Plant Technology, Electrical/Electronic Automated Systems, Electronics Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Production Technology, Precision Machine Technology, Process Control and Instrumentation Technology, and Process Operations Technology.

Minimum Cumulative GPA: 2.5 "

Another thought I had was if you are getting out of the Navy around this time, it could be a way to really get your foot in the door. Especially if you were not a nuke but want to get into the industry.
