Firearm Permit
« on: Feb 07, 2009, 07:54 »
I am going to be starting on Feb 17th (in-processing), would filing for a permit to purchase a firearm ("FOID" in Illinois) not a concealed carry permit be a potential issue with in-processing? I was all ready given unescorted access in May and left in August. Thanks for the input!

Down here it is generally assumed that everyone has gun.  And many of us have carry permits.  I can't see how it would effect your access unless they turn up something in researching your permit.

I remember when we used to check our guns at the gatehouse at your plant  ;)....miss those days, I do.... :(

I was house at Grand Gulf in mid 80's.  Only rule was that if your gun was in car you were supposed to lock door.  General assumption was that there was at least one gun in every car.  RPM in those days had a dealer's license and I bought several guns from him in parking lot

Not at all the FOID should be under the control of the state police and they have no interest in dealing with a nuclear plant or the feds other than running your prints for disqualifying info.

Yup, I bought a few from him too. I remember when the memo came out from Security asking everyone that had a gun in their car to keep it locked, think it was the second refuel outage.... ;)

Should be no matter at all, that is a relationship between you and the state, not the Feds and not the nukes.

However, all plants have policies for contraband (fire arms and ammo are contraband) on to plant property any part of plant property, including parking lots.

Some plants do random vehicle searches with under car mirror and run a wand over you steering wheel to sniff for explosives.  Consider wearing gloves when shooting or loading your own ammo.

Watch out for people making blanket statements. At the plant I am curently working, the contraband warnings are on the security entrance door. The parking lot is fair game for firearms. And that is the stated policy.

I Believe there going after the ammo. Which there no protection for having aright too. I been trying to buy 9MM blinking ammo to show the little woman how to shoot and its almost impossible to get.

Hey there-

I can't see how applying for the permit would cause any snags, as it shows you're working to comply with regulations set forth by the state. Should be good to go!
