Posting (signage) question

What is the proper way to hang a "Caution, Radioactive Materials" posting for a sea/land? Inside the door or inside the door? My opinion is on the outside, but I cannot find a clear regulatory answer. You'd think after 22 years and seeing containers posted both ways, I'd know the right answer. NRC, DOE, and many states just use the word "conspicuous".

Please help.

I would do both, as I am a belt and suspenders kind of guy.  The container should have a label, but I would also post the sign on the door and string a rope with a sign inside so that it can be clearly seen when the door is open.

If the container (I'm assuming a 20' or 40' Sea-Van) is in use, I'm used to seeing "Radioactive Material" magnetic signs on all four sides and a rope and sign just inside the doors so you don't lose your posting once the doors are open.

If it is being shipped, it should be properly placarded per DoT and the necessary paperwork filled out.  However, I would leave the "Radioactive Material" posting inside the doors so the message doesn't get lost once it gets to its destination and someone opens the doors.
