SRR Jobs...
« on: Nov 09, 2009, 02:00 »
Hello,

With all the SRR job postings I have been seeing over the last 3 months or so, when are they actually going to start hiring?

I would love to get on that job and I have been waiting for 2 months to hear something from the headhunters, but all is silent.

I am a Designer with Nuke experience looking for my next contract.

Thanks

The site is on stand down due to a number of accidents.
1. 3 workers with acid burns.
2. 2 workers with flash burns (they put a metal torpedo level on a live racked out breaker).
3. Numerous other injuries.
4. 4 workers contaminated from a leaking drum (UTM TRU, not wearing full PCs, only gloves and a faceshield).
5. Audit problems (i.e. WHERE DID THE MONEY GO? :o). We are renting double-wide office trailers (14-10X10 rooms) for $7K/mo. for two years (at least 100 of them).

We can barely empty a trash can and are eagerly awaiting for an approved procedure to use the bathroom.

Shaw engineering is hiring for MOX. If not Shaw, try Areva.

Good luck,

Hey,

Thanks for the info.

I have been pulling my hair out because I had a headhunter call me and say I would be a great fit for several jobs out there... they submitted me and then all I hear is stalling. My resume has been in the mix since mid September and I have been wondering what is going on.

So, any idea when they will begin filling those offices with all of the jobs they keep posting and re-posting?

No affiliation, it is just a coincidence that I happened to post about it.  I am just anxious to get on the road again.  Things are slow all over.

and all of them refer to "SRR Engineering Teams".  A great number of companies have posted these same jobs.  I would love to work on this project and have been trying to get hired since the middle of September, when all of the postings began.

I am a Civil/Structural Designer with almost 17 years experience and for the last 2 and half years I have been doing some Electrical and Mechanical Design.  I also picked up some Project Management, Construction Management and Estimating in the middle east, and I also worked at Cooper Nuclear recently.

Thanks,

Simian

Tarbox,

So who should I contact about design positions at SRR?

What companies could get me in there?

I have had a lot of companies not respond to me after submitting my resume.  It is frustrating, but you don't want to submit a resume with every company because if they get it from 2 companies they will throw yours out.

Thanks for the reply though.

Simian

According to one comany I talked to(Name withheld) there are 5 companies posting jobs for the Liquid Waste contracts and each one can submit 30 resumes. Then there are 20 job slots that will be filled from those 150 resumes. However if you submit your resume with more than one of them, then your resume will not be reviewed for the job. It will be removed from the submittals and discarded. It's always been that way at SRS. I suggest you make sure and tell all the companies that may have your resume that you don't want them to submit you. Then tell just one of them to submit you. It has always been that way there at SRS as long as I can remember. Just remember that nothing happens fast when working with the government. Good luck and happy job hunting.

Mr. Black,

I have only authorized one company to submit my resumen but how long should this take?

When will they actually hire people?

Thanks,

Simian

Simian,
It's almost impossible to say when they will hire folks. I was told that they would be accepting resumes until today for the spots that are available and the staffing would be during the month of December. Things change daily when the government is involved. Just don't give up and something will open up very soon I hope. Good Luck
 Henry

Awhile back, like in the 90's, if one contract company submitted a resume and another company submitted the same resume, it was automatically discarded for both companies by SRS.  Hope that still isn't going on.

I have my application ready to send- is this a waste of my time- or is there hope?

Just looking for an update... I still see the same jobs at SRR posted that have been post weekly since early September.

Has anybody actually been hired out there?

I put out resumes to several of the jobs and never heard a word back... and now the posts say that if you submit with more than one company they will throw out your resume.

Is that more than one company per job or more than one company total if you are qualified for several jobs?

Let me know if you hear anything.

Thanks

I would be very cautious about coming to work at Savannah River.  There are a lot of financial issues going on down here and people are having their contracts cancelled early due to those issues.  SRNS is currently looking for more people to take early retirement (2nd time in just over a year) to cut expenses.  Also, when things get bad, the contractors are let go so that SRNS can move their people into the job to save the permanent employees, so a lot of poeple are doing jobs they really aren't qualified for.  DoE has had several investigations and I would expect more flak as things get discovered. >:(

So far none of the sub-contract HP's have been let go.  Some have been released for disciplinary reasons, but not for lack of mulah.  Other trades?  Yes!

Besides subcontract companies,go to the web sites of SRNL,SRR, and MOX.SRNL and SRR are the primary contractors here at SRS and have openings listed. Don't know what will happen when the stimulus supported ARRA jobs end but I know SRNL is hiring permanent employees. mh

Though this would be a good place to post this notice as well as elsewhere on forum:

New Update since last summer:

First, ACTS is no longer a acting recruiting company for SRS as of the end of this month.   "The Law finally caught up with them" (so to speak).  There is a new company which reportedly is a "front" (for a better word) for ACTS.  Can't remember the name (it's after 2:00 in the morning, give me a break) so I'll get back to you later tonight.
Second, ACTS was required thru DOJ and DOL to reimburse back pay (haven't performed a wage rate determination since 2005; required every 2 years; maybe 2003 but don't quote me on 2003; check beta ant's postings from last summer).  Supposedly, this was for backpay to their last wage rate determination (in 2005; again not sure if it wasn't as far back as 2003), but they are only reimbusing back to May, 2009.  All current employees as of Nov., 2009 were issued checks in November.  Former employees have yet to be paid, even though we are "on the list", as quoted by Matt of ACTS, and "we need to be sure to have all of our t's crossed and i's dotted before we issue checks".  That is extremely close to what Matt told me just one month ago.  And I and others are still waiting on our checks.
Third, there are several RC contract services on site now, including Noramtech, VAS and many more (check them out online).
Fourth, though many contract techs were hired last year with promises of "lots of overtime", they haven't seen squat.  "GET THE PICTURE!!"
Fifth, as a "piece de resistance", the operating companies on site are hiring "junior" techs (fresh out of school) on subcontracts at the rate of appx. $31.00 per hour, which rivals topped-out senior house techs with equivalent 3.1 qualifications and senior RCT contract techs.  And they expect us to train these high-paid "newbies".  I DON'T THINK SO!!  THERE IS A PLANTATION FULL OF P.O'd TECHS ON SITE.  Many senior contract techs are seriously, if not already gone, thinking of jumping ship if they are not properly compensated to meet this outrageous pay scale for "newbies" that have no practical experience and only a technicial degree.
What do you think of that?!  DO YOU STILL WANT TO COME WORK HERE??   HUH??  HUH??

Just remembered name of new company that "replaces" ACTS (actually, I saw BetaAnt's forum post from February).   It's EGS, housed in the same building as ACTS.  They appear to be one and the same (my opinion) and up to the same old tricks. :o

I'm not at SR but I have dealt with newer technicians for a long time. I am paying back for the time that was given to me many years ago.I choose to stay where I'm at as it is not about the money anymore but the life style. The road had its place but it is not the same scenic drive to me as it once was. To each his own. If I make a deal for xyz I'll do my part. BUT if that person is lazy or has a flippant attitude or feels he is owed a living I'm not as generous with my time.

I expect the ARRA techs will be gone when the money runs out. Not all, but most. The site will hire some, but not all. After all, this is what you sign up for on the road. At Catawba I got my exit body count date as I was in processing. I work at SRS and am interested in how the subs are treated. I remember how I was treated when I first got there. One of the things that made me mad the most was working like a dog all week and the overtime go to a house slug. I here that is still the policy. If so I still think its wrong.

Still working here at SRS. Came in 1 year ago and renewels are in progress. They are handling it like a soup sandwich as expected. Some will not be renewed. TRU waste and SRR will have the bulk of the money. I wouldn't expect any new hiring as those positions that leave don't get refilled. There are other DOE things going on around the country but as far as I know they are as precarious as SRS.
Today is the best day of my life! HSIITBS!
