It all depends on what the odds of you getting contaminated are.  Most plants will let you into the RCA with a covered wound, but start flinching if you are dressed out.  Buy an occlusive bandage that will cover the whole area and you increase your chances of talking them into it.

That being said, there are conservative RPs that won't even let you in the RCA...and non-conservative ones that won't worry even if you are rolling around in the cavity...

at home our shop is pretty clean in the ca but we have some strict rps and some laid back ones i would imagine as long as i am not in the decon room i would be fine i was thinking with maybe putting some saran wrap around it while i was in the ca and covering it up with a thermal to hide it from the strict rps but then what if i end up contaminated and then theres a huge stink over it im leaning towards not getting it but the appointment was a x-mas gift from my gf so then what do i do its a tough decision

Saran wrap is not good for that.  You'll risk infecting it, and then it will not only ooze and hurt, but it could ruin your ink.
A clean, dry bandage that covers the area will be fine.  If it is blistering, oozing, or bleeding, better stay out of contaminated areas for a while.
Most professional tats don't pose a problem as long as you keep it dry and clean and use the ointment.

ok, as someone (RP) with 40+ hours of inkwork, here is my opinion:

A+D ointment, covered by a large gauze bandage (kinda loose, but taped in place). Wear long sleeve scrubs.
Change the dressing (re-apply ointment as necessary) at EACH break.
I wouldn't advice hi-contam work the first day or so, but should be OK after that. If you get the area contaminated, the ointment should prevent any penetration by the contamination. Any decon to the skin around the tat should be done with very mild soap (ask your artist for a recommendation).
