Received an NLO Offer
« on: Jan 12, 2011, 08:55 »
I received an offer from a utility in the Southeast. I'm coming from a non technical and a completely unrelated background. What advice might any of you guys have for me?  I'm eager to start this new career and learn as much as I can.  Is there anywhere on the net to retrieve any study material?  My start date is early spring and I want to be as well prepared as I can be.

This is a great site with a wealth of information. Thanks to all those in the industry that contribute.

Congratulations and welcome to the industry!

This might wet your whistle as far as an intro into nuclear power.

ask lots and lots of questions! If they hired you, its probably for a reason ;) Dont be afraid to ask questions!

dont worry, I've looked over the NLO study material and it starts so basic, a 7th grader could learn the material (obviously it gets tougher :D, but again, they hired you for a reason)

The guy that did the best in my NLO class had a Biology degree and had been working construction.  The worst had a Mechanical Engineering degree.  You just have to be willing to put the time and effort in to learning the material...background is pretty much irrelevant.

You just have to be willing to put the time and effort in to learning the material.

That, to me, is the key to success in anything you do.
