any recent security jobs
« on: Apr 30, 2012, 12:57 »
So my story is that I am now in the reserves of the marines and have recently done outage work at my local plant ... so I have current unescorted access and have done all of the nrc online tests. With that said I have seen about a dozen security jobs in the Northeast US and have sent out applications and resumes to all with not even a email back even saying no thank you. I just want to know , is this a job where you have to know someone or what, like it goes to to lead security guys friends first, because that is what is seems like. My resume is extensive in weapons and security for marine aircraft squadrons and have done everything listed on these job descriptions numerous times and even more in depth so I just am a little lost here....

Most likely, its the fact that Security wont hire individuals that live out of the area.  Companies refuse to pay for moving and relocation expenses when they have plenty of local individuals who are qualified. This is exactly what happens at my plant.  I had a Buddy (who lives out of state) who is more than qualified apply for multiple Security jobs at my plant.....never heard a word back, so I investigated.  HR flat out told me this: "Resumes for Security jobs from individuals out of state are AUTOMATICALLY rejected".

My advice.....contact the Security Manager (who most likely has never seen your resume) and explain that you live out of the area and wont require relocation reimbursement if given the opportunity to work for him.  The Manager can then request your resume from HR....or you can directly email him it.

I think Duke has one listed at Oconee

but Ill add this.  I think Duke uses contract security to help fill in for outages and most of the new hires are picked from the contract pool since they already have most of the quals out of the way.
