What to do to gain Unescorted Access?
« on: Jun 07, 2012, 10:40 »
I am an electrician seeking employment for a job at a nuclear facility but have been denied access twice. Each time I have had to go thru a psych eval  and each time been referred to the onsite mro.  I pass my initial welding test, drug screen, and nantel training and take my mmpi.  The first time I was denied the mro told me I couldn't work there because I was taking suboxone.  The second time all I got was an unfavorable ruling from the mro.  I would like to know what I need to do to gain access NO TROUBLE WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT NON-ALCOHOLIC  the only reason im on suboxone is because I was put on pain medication for a back condition rather than being cut on. Honestly i would hav rather been cut on than take pain medication. Over time i developed an intolerance to pain meds so I started suboxone to come off them.  Im a responsible safe journeyman electrician who abides by the rules and I agree 100% with security and safeguards  I just would like some info on what i can do to gain employment   ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL  THANKS

I know how you feel Brother. I just went thru the same thing, except that I was not denied. I have been taking pain meds for years and always told the utility what I was taking. This past outage the MRO was about to deny me, I had to jump thru hoops to get him to give me access. I had to stop the meds that I was taking, go to my Pain Management Dr. and have a Drug Screen to prove that I was not taking the meds any longer. In all fairness the MRO went above and beyond for me once he and my Dr. spoke. The MRO stayed over at work until he heard from my Dr. Have your Dr. call the MRO and tell him that you are a person who can perform his job and be a productive member of society while taking your meds. The only other thing is to stop taking your current meds and go on something non-narcotic. Best of luck to you and I hope it all works out.

I appreciate it bro  I am sitting here racking my brain or have been ever since i wuz denied 1st time.  i hav never had a problem getting a job because of my past or behavior, etc.  I hav the utmost respect for the Nuclear Industry and the security measures they implement  and I understand the day and age we live in  they hav to hav STRICT RULES AND REGULATIONS!  and if i had another choice as far as a call to take outside the Nuclear world  i would jump on it  but right now i hav a guaranteed job  i jus hav to help the psych and/or MRO understand i can be a productive safe employee  I jus want to take care of my wife and children and get back to work  i look at gaining access as an Honor to me   i jus wish there was a way i could get him to give me a chance  if i wer a junkie/addict  i wouldnt even bother  but most everyone has to take some kind of prescription  NOT EVERYONE   i hope i get the chance to prove my worth  i jus dnt wanna keep gettin denied  anymore info u hav on da hoops u went thru would b very much appreciated bro

If I were you I would talk to the Access Supervisor at the utility and then also talk to the MRO. It seems to me that you are not bitter over this and understand the implications that the utility is under. Just call and talk to these people and ask them what you would have to do to gain access. Also there is a member on this forum who has helped other nuke workers here, I believe that his user name is ...Graphic. Check other threads on the forum for FFD concerns and you should be able to track him down and maybe send him a private message. This gentleman has proven his knowledge and has been very helpful to others. Once again call and talk to the Access Sup. and the MRO, it can't hurt. Best of luck.
