I actually did say it was Tetra Tech in a later post

I also have a couple of other prospects that will likely pay in the range I am asking. If (and that is a big IF) Tetra Tech will offer in that range, I may consider their job.

However, since the time of the original post, I have been approached by KAPL. If that goes through, I might be going to NY instead of MI. I would still consider MI, but they have to respond quickly and with a good offer. I've been stagnating for two months now and I am ready to go to work.

If I wanted a job that only paid 40k per year, I wouldn't have bothered with the engineering degree. My technical communication degree alone is worth that much.

The company requesting applicants is Tetra Tech, which was not provided by the OP and neither did the OP refute  the invalid assumption it was UM.....

Okay,...the thread probably moved faster than the OP referred back to it,...still pretty much OBE,...

I want to see the name of the "nuclear engineer" making 30K at U michigan.  Especially since the UM reactor has been shut down since the 90's.

Waiting...

The license is not yet terminated, it is plausible, if not likely, the RSO has need of an entry level "nuclear engineer" to help with final reports and RAI's,...

or possibly to assist in developing a submission for the DOE grant applications call for theoretical and computational research relevant to the U.S. magnetic fusion energy sciences program for 2013,...

then again,....we're still OBE here,...

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"

From Michigan.gov:

In mid 2007, the average annual earnings of Nuclear Engineers in Michigan were:

Engineer I (entry level to 2 years experience)
Average Salary: $59,675
Salary range: $51,600 - $77,400

Those NEs that Broadzilla knows must be really getting the shaft   :o

Ok, but she's making a lot more than $30,000-40,000 per year (over 150k). Still doesn't give us anyone who's making that little. Seems more like a pay scale for the 90's rather than now.

She is a department head ata major university. I guarantee you the others are not in the 90s. You want that kind of money you go utility. Then wait a few years,

Universities are notorious for low pay. Those with PHDs and Masters or even a BS who want to remain in academia frequently accept lower than public sector pay. UT Knoxville recently posted for a Radiation Specialist who would answer to the RSO, the Pay scale was $13.83/Hr less than half of what RadTechs working at the local DOE & NNSA sites make with much less responsibility. (I consider the UT Battelle Techs at the Oak Ridge Labs DOE and they make the DOE scales)
I don't have the specifics that BZ has for UM but it certainly is consistent with what I have seen in other Universities.

I could accept that for a grad student or maybe a PhD candidate, but not for a regular worker. I just couldn't see anyone being that hard up for a job, even in this economy. Even government jobs pay better than that.

Yeah, but that's for a G-5. If you did ok in school (B average or better) the lowest pay grade you should accept is G-7. G-9 or G-11 for masters etc.
