Job Security-Layoffs?
« on: Mar 14, 2013, 08:42 »
Hi,
I'm being considered for a permanent mechanic position at aa  nuke plant and was wondering about job secuirty in the nuke industry?  Are layoffs common?  What is turnover like?  Is overtime mandatory for union represented employees? I know things are different from plant to plant but I'm just trying to get an idea of what it's like compared to FossGen plants. Any info greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Are layoffs common?
No, the only times I saw layoffs was when Nuclear Division president finished his Executive MBA and seemed to have learned that the first thing to do was reduce the workforce and the other was when the plant I was at was bought by another company and we became a Merchant Plant.

What is turnover like?
Minimal

Is overtime mandatory for union represented employees?
Yes, especially during outages.
