it appears to me that this job was not properly planned, maybe they should have asked a planner and/or a scheduler to help out

At which point the planner/scheduler would add an dependent task, show resource at 80% expended, and extend the getaway by 13 days ;)

The planner would have arraigned for their getaway to be a city bus due to cost savings of 20% over a private vehicle
