NAVY NUPOC
« on: Nov 17, 2013, 04:51 »
I am considering going into the NUPOC program and I have some questions? I am a Junior studying Mechanical Engineering with a 3.65 GPA.

If I choose to be an power school instructor does that mean I will not be away from my wife? Can she be living with me in South Carolina?
How is the weekly routine for an instructor?

I do know you start as an E-6. What benefits and bonuses do you receive while in the program?

When do you become an officer?

I have about eighteen months left of school, can I apply for the program and finish my bachelor's and continue to go to school for another year to get a degree in Aerospace Engineering??
Or should I just pursue a masters degree and apply for the program once I have a year left?

What kind of jobs can you get within the military after serving the five years?

Also what kind of jobs can you get outside the military after the five years?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am very interested in this program, I would just like to know what I am getting into. Thank you in advance!

I will attempt to say this cordially:

You are here because you are considering a career in Naval nuclear power, no? A big part of that culture is the ability to seek information for yourself rather than have everyone spoonfeed it to you. I understand you're not a nuke 'yet,' but it won't hurt to start learning to help yourself now. If you demonstrate the initiative to seek knowledge, people will guide you. If you expect to show up and call everyone names because you can't be bothered to spend a few minutes searching a website, then you will get the type of responses you are getting.

When 'Smart People' posted 'what we read,' he hit the nail on the head. You effectively showed up to the site and asked if female sailors have to go to sea, which demonstrates that you have done almost no research into your future career choices at all.

You want to know if you will go to sea in the Navy and if you'll have internet on a carrier? That's a lookup.

enginerd,

When Broadzilla asked me to look up your IP address, I got a little carried away.  I was able to find out a LOT about you.  What town you live in. Where you went to high school, and college. That you were on the swim team (as was your girlfriend that just graduated HS, and has been to London, Barcelona, and Paris).  That you mentor HS kids.  You took a ride on the Vomit Commit.

And that auto accident.

So… now that I have all that out of the way, I have a couple questions.

1.   What did the Zero G feel like?
2.   How did the Illinois engineer co-op opportunity go?
3.   When is the wedding?

Lastly, I wish you luck in your trial in February.

So how does one ensure his IP address does not reveal random little details like that?

More importantly, how does one reveal random little details like that from IP alone?  :o

Unless..he's not just using his IP alone and he actually registered his user using 'real information' like a n00b.

Why is a non qual commenting on this?

I got street cred in the CS circles, that's why. Oh, and a bachelors.

Thar and a quarter will get you a used condom in Cleveland Ohio.

In certain cases it seems the condom was not used when it should have been.

OK, the work has now been done for you:

http://www.navy.com/careers/nuclear-energy/nuclear-power-school.html

First, you don't just go "into the NUPOC program", you have to apply.  The process is detailed in that link, and can also be given to you by an officer recruiter.

Second, being accepted is extremely competitive.

Third, the prospects of the Navy sending you to get your Masters right after getting your commission through NUPOC are slim to none.

Fourth, if i recall correctly, your ONLY option for a job in the Navy after the initial 5 year commitment is as a Nuke officer, either surface or sub.

As has been stated in numerous posts within these forums, the expectation is that you will do some leg work on your own.  The amount of effort an individual is willing to put into achieving a goal is directly related to their success.

Best of luck to you.

This is not true. My DILDO (who was a EE instructor) was accepted into becoming a pilot and was due to transfer a couple months after our class graduated.
