Current Alcohol Use Rules

I'm 25 years old and currently enrolling into the Radiation Safety program at my local technical college (TSTC Waco, TX) with an ultimate goal of working at a power plant as a HP or CHP.

I have a passion for beer/wine making/growing, I want to own a small vineyard and currently drink wine/beer. Would it affect my ability to have unescorted access if I continue to drinking alcohol? I don't get black out drunk or feel that I have a problem but I love a glass of red wine or a nice beer with dinner (or two). I would also never show up to work hungover or under the influence. I've seen a lot about past alcohol experiences but nothing regarding current alcohol use (for an active employee.)

Also, I do have a DWI on my record. I lost a parent and made a stupid decision to drink/drive while trying to cope with the loss. Do you think that would affect a hiring companies decision given my current views on alcohol? Should I have a psych test or chemical dependency test done NOW (2 years before I graduate) to show a history of stability/reform?

I'm not in the Security Department, but I assume if you don't show up to work intoxicated......and refrain from driving under the influence you should be ok.

If you attempt to obtain a clearance with the D.O. E. world,your DWI will be looked at closely.  "Extremely heavy" alcohol usage will show up in your liver enzyme test,and may be a problem if obtaining a Q clearance at a site that has an employee assurance program. It does not matter if you are sober when showing up for work.They will see this as a problem. Keep your nose clean from now on and you should be fine. Do not lie about any past problems associated with alcohol,as they will find out when doing an investigation. Good luck with your schooling and welcome to the field.....
