To get it going again, basic functions would have to resume, a costly proposition. On top of that, the licensing process, which is only about halfway done, is likely to be lengthy and expensive. And at least for now, the Department of Energy has withdrawn its support for the now-languishing application there's not even an official application being considered.

Instead, Democrats say the focus for the nuclear waste problem should be on acquiring funds for short-term storage. Also, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., says, focus should be on repairing the only permanent facility in existence, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, near Carlsbad, New Mexico. An accident there last year caused a small but noteworthy nuclear waste leak.....

   Your first citation hinges on opposition by the Democrats in the Senate the article I posted hinges on Republicans taking the White house and retaining its majorities in both houses. Your second citation deals with spent fuel management in general not Yucca Mountain.
   I think I put more faith in "The 2016 politics of nuclear energy" even though it is a magazine article. The author focuses on energy and environmental issues.

once upon a time some nukeworkers were scolded by other nukeworkers that the (pending) Obama administration would be just as beneficial for nukeworkers as previous administrations,...

I would beg to differ,...

particularly for the recently minted and or recently stillborn nukeworkers,...

not overly harsh for the tried and true, but not good, just not overly harsh,...

stimulus don't count, that would be credit card goodies not good jobs, and the bill is in the mail,...
