We are getting closer:

It's starting to look good.

Please ...  tell me what you think.

You don't have to try it out on a mobile device.  That site is currently designed for desktops.  Once I get it looking good on a desktop, then I will work on other form factors.

But I need feedback people.

At first glance, I like it. I am assuming that we will still be able to zoom in and out on touch screens? Some web pages don't allow for this on mobile devices and it is very frustrating.

Yes, you will still be able to do that. Our only goal is to make it more readable.

Well.... I think I got the 'responsive' home page good enough for the desktop.

As you have seen by now, the new page is live.

It's 'better' on phones.... but I'm still having some issues with them.  One of the columns won't go 100% wide.... grrr

Well, I made it live, and then I slept on it, and now, looking at it with a fresh set of eyes.... I like it.

How about the rest of you?

I finally fixed the 'special character' error that was causing  apostrophes, and other such items to show as invalid characters.

I also fixed the issue I was having making it full screen on mobile phones.

I updated the 'theme/template/wrapper' for the photo gallery and the forum to match the new home page.

Also added the ability to navigate picture in the photo gallery with cursor keys.

And made other enhancements to the photo gallery to make it more mobile friendly.

Another slight modification to the mobile version of the home page, removed the "by " and "where" parts of the jobs and forum subjects to make the lines shorter and easier to read.

Affects only mobile view.

Okay, I FINALLY took a look at the site on my phone.  Mike, you never fail to impress me with what you do here.  Nukeworker never looked better on here!

Just to be clear, the changes I'm making to the site also affect the desktop/laptop version.  I want to hear about all of the changes.  The silence either means I did a real good job of making the change... or ....

So, In order to make the forum usable on mobile devices, I needed to change to a design that works on mobile devices.

I realize I just moved your cheese... to another state...

Give it a week, then tell me what you think of the changes to the forum.

I feel like I'm looking at my great-grandma's phone or deck of cards in the nursing home. I have recently switched to Chrome from Internet Explorer. So I'm trying to get used to both sets of changes. Do you know of a way I can reduce the on screen size before I spend a couple hours trying to figure it out on my own?

Try holding down CTRL and scrolling your mouse wheel, that works in fire fox and internet explorer.

That only works for portions of the page. Additionally, the button configuration on the post reply page seem out of place, like some options are missing?

How is the post reply page now?  (It was missing the spoiler image)

I also fixed some stuff where the columns were spaced wrong in the message list.

And some other stuff. (brought back our standard icons in some more places)

I added some shadow/definition around the message box, and the poster information box.  Personal, it has really improved the readability for me...

I also made some of the margins smaller.

After having it for a day or 2, I'm starting to get used to the new forum design.

It looks good as usual for you!  Like Marlin it will take me a while to get used to it and find all of the missing things!  Since I don't use a PAD or I-phone (I still carry an old flip phone) I don't understand the reasoning.  But, I get more and more e-mails that have on the bottom - sent from my I-phone, even from my sister at 84!  And one of the things I didn't see just popped up when I hit preview (I found the smileys)!   :old: [beer]

sorry man, I dislike it,...

my proficiency on the previous format is now obsolete,...

I'm just not motivated to build proficiency on this new format, not as many old friends still around, not enough newer friends who are engaged here, old antagonists no longer put out any challenges to consider and rebut, and the home sites for the clients and potential sources of work are much better today that they were 12 years ago,...

this is still the best site for user friendly study materials and career insight referencing,...

but I already know where to find those things,...

if I was new to NW.com.?!?!?!

it would not be nearly as intuitive,...

to my reckoning, it is no longer intuitive at all; more like an old school community BB, where half of the appeal is the street creds for knowing how to navigate around a byzantine architecture,...

and yet, the outage schedule is still a very cool benefit,...

the rest is just passing me by,...

been there, dun that,... the doormat to hell does not read "welcome", the doormat to hell reads "it's just business"

I appreciate the feedback.

I understood going into this that it would be painful for all of us.  That is why I have been saying for 5+ years that I was going to have to do it, but never actually changed anything.   I understand that adults hate change.  And what we have had here, over the last few weeks is a fist full of change shoved in our mouth.  The most recent being the new look of the message board.

Sadly, many of the things you said, are beyond my control:

not as many old friends still around
not enough newer friends who are engaged here
old antagonists no longer put out any challenges to consider and rebut
the home sites for the clients and potential sources of work are much better today that they were 12 years ago,...

If you have any suggestions on how we can fix any of those issues and attract more active members... I'd love to hear it.

As it is, to remain in existence, we need to adapt to the changing times.  And that includes the fact that most people surf on their phones and tablets.

yes I know, I was content with 5849, then along came 1575, and although I have earned lots of coin with 1575, well, you know the rest,...
