Consent-Based Siting Should Not Divert DOE from Yucca Obligations

Any consent-based siting process the U.S. Department of Energy establishes for a waste management system to store or dispose of commercial nuclear reactor used fuel cannot substitute for DOE’s obligations under current law to pursue development of a repository at Yucca Mountain, the Nuclear Energy Institute said last week.
