MOX Fuel Facility Vital to US Nonproliferation Goals, NEI Says

As sparring over the federal budget and negotiations on the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act continue on Capitol Hill, the fate of a relatively obscure, mostly complete manufacturing plant in rural South Carolina hangs in the balance. Also tied to the facility’s fate are U.S. plans to dispose of surplus weapons-grade plutonium—and some 1,700 jobs that would be eliminated if the project ends.
