NRC to Substantially Improve Backfitting Practices

In a win for effective, safety-focused regulation, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s executive director for operations has announced that the agency will be taking several actions to improve implementation of its backfitting and issue finality requirements. Chief among these actions will be changes to the agency’s guidance, requiring staff and senior NRC managers to complete backfit training and a revision of the charter for the Committee to Review Generic Requirements.
