Entry level position!!
« on: Jan 26, 2019, 12:36 »
Hello,

I have no experience in the nuclear field so I was wondering what is the best route to get noticed for a entry level position? Any advice would help. Thank you

May help to specify what discipline you are interested in there are many that are not specific to nuclear. TVA's and GLW's recommendation to browse the thread even if it is a bit long is a good start. Have you gone to any company web sites to see what disciplines are in demand?

I haven't missed a question yet either. That doesn't mean I haven't gotten some wrong.

Ok then I will say it more correctly.
I have never missed a question.
Took my RO NRC Exam in 17 minutes
SRO Upgrade in 23 minutes
SRO Instant in 23 minutes
Current SRO Certification in 4 minutes (it was a 35 question exam)
Never missed a question in NPS or in any of the tests leading up to the above mentioned exams.
Took the entire NRC GFES exam bank in 12 hours. No questions missed.
I know this from many exams and the NRCs comment during a debrief: Thats the smartest SOB in the entire industry.
It’s true. Not bragging, it’s a fact.

Whether or not it is true has nothing to do with the fact that it is an INCREDIBLE brag. The 'No brag, just fact' argument is pure horses**t. The fact that you have to keep promoting yourself like that is just sad.

My question is...how can you know so much about reactor circuitry but so little about the political and world wide state of nuclear development?  You've been wrong so many times it is hard to balance the two poles.

you old timers need something better to do.. this is a hard industry to get into. look into less desirable places to work such as the waste side of nukes. These disposal sites are remote, so most people would rather live/work elsewhere. Getting into a power plant or a desirable DOE location(oak ridge, richland, WA) is near impossible without the experience depending on position (security clearances come into play too). Look into waste disposal sites like WCS in texas, energy solutions in utah and south carolina. Also look into waste brokers like alaron. With time you'll start to recognize locations and contracting companies which makes everything alot easier.
