It's common out west to sell electricity back to utility cooperatives when the private owner has wind and/or solar on their property that creates more than they can use. While the energy sold back to the cooperatives is measurable, just like usage, I wonder how much is wasted collection at non-peak periods (without appreciable storage ability).
