Ludlum Model 79
« on: Sep 23, 2022, 07:14 »
Do I have to worry about the fact that the extendable sections seem to rotate A LOT? Afraid I might twist the probe cable too far & ruin it? This was a common occurrence in some of the old-style extendables?

Any other tips on Model 79s?

This is first time I have run across one. Seems like a handy tool if I can talk them into re-setting to fast response. Right now it is so slow that it is useless. Looked at manual & the response times are past that warning about "Only administrators & instrument gurus should be performing these operations"....

How do you change from 'fixed' to 'auto' response?

Manual says it should be 'A' for auto, but that doesn't seem to exist anywhere when I am poking around set-up mode? I did find an 'F' & 'S', so picked F for fast? That seemed to be set at 60 (seconds?) so changed it to 5. Seemed to help, but...still not responding quickly enough to be useful in field.

Thanks for the help!

I talked to Ludlum today & they said that changing response from fixed to auto is not something that can be done from set-up menu. You have to buy their software package for that level of programmability.
