Hidden History: Stories from the Secret City

D Ray Smith is a walking encyclopedia of Oak Ridge and Y-12 history. He has spoken at our monthly SubVets meeting several times. Currently he is involved along with the American Museum of Science and Energy in the acquisition of the sail of the USS Houston for Bissell Park in Oak Ridge and a periscope for the AMSE. Ray is hoping to interview George Wallace prior to the dedication of the memorial where Commander Wallace will speak at the dedication. I will post the interview on Hidden History when that happens. For Navy Nukes there will be a couple of statues that will be placed at the memorial, one of which will be Admiral Rickover. Rickover got his start at ORNLs Graphite reactor where he earned his Doctorate of Pile Engineering (D.O.P.E.).
